Same Mistakes as the Jeff Foxworthy show...

I certainly hope they have people reading the blogs and paying attention for this show.
The reason people do NOT like this show is because it violates what people love about Bill Engvall. He's a BLUE COLLAR, everyday person - not a white collar psychologist. He's from the South - NOT Denver. What are they thinking? Next, the family dynamic is awkward - by that, I mean the writing is out of sync with sitcom writing, so the pacing of the story and jokes are both off.

I really want to like this show, and support Bill Engvall, both because I really like him as a comedian and his honest and funny portrayal of Southerners (since I happen to be one) - but this show completely disregards his persona - and his personality, and his style of comedy - which is the reason he got the show in the first place. It ignores his fan base - which doesn't mean he has to be the same guy you see up on stage, but there should be a little of him in there somewhere.

On the Jeff Foxworthy show, they tried to make it compete with Home Improvement, and took away everything that made Jeff Foxworthy, well, Jeff Foxworthy. They took the South right out of him, and his comedic style. Why fix it if it ain't broke? Not to say Jeff was a phenomenal actor - he's self-proclaimed to be terrible. But in his defense, the show was completely alien to who and what he is. This is the same mistake they are making with this show for Bill Engvall.

I sincerely hope they salvage the show format before it simply gets canceled. I'm going to try and keep watching.

The problem is that NONE of the networks, not even TBS which is in Atlanta, will do a show set in the south. They have it in their heads that no one other than southerners will watch it (not true)and that southerners won't buy advertised products becasue they are all dirt poor. Southerners are the only group still sterotyped by Hollywood and as a southerner I am SICK OF IT!!

"Southerners are the only group still sterotyped by Hollywood"

You're clearly an idiot if you believe this. Do you ever watch American movies and tv shows? Every race and minority is stereotyped, especially in big, stupid blockbusters like the Transformers movies.

Yes, you're all right, us northern folks to pick on you poor southerners BOO HOO!!

I really like this show, I don't need another blue collar TV, I like that we get something other than stupid southern humor.

Whatever.

That's sad, because you'd think if he's not playing himself in the show, the show shouldn't be named after him.

speaking as a Californian-i think a show being set in the south makes it way cooler if they do it right and actually make it like the real south. Me and friends have agreed for example that True Blood on HBA would be the most boring show on TV if it wasn't for the southern culture, location and accents that are so prevalent in the show, but because its set in the south it makes it much cooler and interesting-its a side of america that is vbery interesting and often only portrayed on american TV as a bad stereotype of stupidrednecks, when TV shows get the south right it is really interesting.

TV shows need to get it out of their head that just because someone has a southern accent it doesn't mean they can't be smart-often on TV it seems southern accent is equated with being dumb

True Blood is a bad steriotype! I'm from the south, and I am so sick of people saying things like "There accents are so realistic!" They don't have the accents, locations, or real culture of the south. They just have the "Hollywood verison" of the south. South doesn't mean stupid. That's like saying people with an english accent have a higher IQ. It's just a steriotype that's handed out.

OK, first Engvall is not really from the South. He is from Texas... born, raised, and even went to college here. Having grown up in the South, (northwest FL and went to college in NC) and have lived in TX for 13 years, there is a definite difference.

Regardless, I have only watched the show a couple of times; and I didn't even know that he was supposed to be a therapist. But I do agree, the show is at best, mediocre. Engvall as a comedian is funny; even if his act is quite clean (especially when compared to some of my favs, such as Louis CK and the like).

So it is especially a shame that the show is merely Saturday-night fodder (for married peeps, parents, and for stay-at-"homers") who can't stand seeing Van Wilder yet again on Comedy Central, boxing on HBO, UFOs or Hitler on the History channel, Saturday marathons of weekday reruns on Discovery, etc. I only end up watching this show when I am not really paying too much attention and busy on my laptop doing useless stuff.

You know that sound Goofy makes when he falls? That's my quote.
