I don't understand the ending (spoilers)

why the hell would they let Cortez go? Am I supposed to believe that the girl dosn't care if her empire falls to the Spanish when he returns? And if he has an army with him, why would he be scared to face one single rogue spaniard warrior? "He was too scared to enter this one valley.." give me a break.

As I recall, Rios told Cortez that there were more dinos or eggs that hadnt hatched yet.

reply

Still, he had an entire army with him when he returned. If he can take out an entire empire, he could handle a few dinos

It's called suspension of disbelief. It's the same thing that helps us to not question how a guy can go around the world using the same name (James Bond) on EVERY so-called secret mission he has and nobody ever seems to catch on that the same guy with the same name is a freakin' spy. Or how about how they were able to sneak in three large duffle bags of ads for hookers in Ocean's Eleven without anyone noticing? Or how about the fact that in countless movies young nubile 20-something hot chicks fall in love with and actually want to have sex with guys in their 60's or 70's like Jack Nicholson, Sean Connery, Alec Baldwin, or Warren Beatty! Or how about the fact that in most movies the "plain chick" that no guy wants to date is really a total hottie that any heterosexual guy would eat broken glass just to cop a feel!
Like most movies, this is one that you just have to sit back and relax and enjoy!

I have news for you: plenty of young women fancy older guys, especially when they are as charismatic as Connery (although personally I find him irritating) and Nicholson (whom I find mega-irritating).

reply

Really? Plenty? And you aren't just talking about the typical gold-digging, vapid, empty-headed bimbo the likes of which are commonly found in L.A., Vegas, Miami and NY?
I'm talking about in real life. Charisma and megabucks of Connery or Nicholson aside, how many young 20-something girls would rather hook up with a 70 year old man over another 20 or 30 somthing year old guy with ripped abs, high cheekbones and nice pecs? If you saw a 60 or 70 year old guy cruising for chicks at Daytona Beach on Spring Break, do you really think any of those girls would give him the time of day unless he had a $100 bill taped to his pecker?

reply

You folks have yet to mention that Julia Roberts (PRETTY WOMAN) was famous when she married Lyle Lovette... *smile*
Now just what would you think attracted her to him?

Well, articles I have read pretty much laid the conquering of the empire on the Aztecs' underestimation of the damage the Spanish swords could do. (Specifically, cleave a man from shoulder to pelvis in a single stroke! Yes, the swords WERE that good!)

The Aztecs allowed a contingent of Spanish soldiers into their capitol city with their armor and swords, and were overwhelmed by the "high-tech" Spanish swords. It is possible that all the elite warriors were slaughtered in a short encounter, and the rest of the Aztecs were justifiably afraid to face any of Cortez's soldiers after that, and certainly no more effective when they did.

A dinosaur would certainly have a much tougher skin, like elephant hide maybe? If that was the case, Spanish swords or not, the damage done by a sword would probably have been almost negligible.

In that case, size really does matter.

But really, it was just a movie! (And it's credited to Portugal! Vested interest maybe?)

reply

What I didn't get was why he was so afraid to conquer a village with only four people living in it.

This whole movie was a joke. But it was a very, very good joke.

Relax, guy.

Well, you have to remember that the rest of the tribe or village or whatever was farther inland "several days travel away" as stated by Mendoza (Will Snow) when he and Rios (Marco Sanchez) follow the princess and the other two warriors. Ayacoatl (Dichen Lachman) and Father Gria (Jack McGee) also make mention of it as well in a discussion with the chief (Allen Gumapac).
