For Americans: Do they bleep the swearing for US TV?

American guests are often surprised that you can swear on the show (though Graham Norton obviously has orders not to encourage it too much), so I wondered if you get bleeping or if they cut the whole thing to hell before it gets broadcast over there?

[I've seen international versions of Top Gear and they just massacre it in the edit... And it's often (almost always?) tedious in its original form!]

BBC America does, not sure why as other cable channels have shows with swearing on them, maybe they didn't get the memo that it's ok.

reply

They don't edit everything on BBC America.

BOHICA America!

reply

They don't seem to edit it out on BBC America, but maybe just f-word. I never noticed.

Thanks for the answers!

I've been watching this show and several others on BBCA for several years. The f-word is the only one they edit out.

More annoyingly, they end up editting out for time. An hour long show in America contains about 22 minutes of commercials, so even a 45 minute show from Britian gets cut for time.

They don't bleep $hit which is unusual, but they do bleep the f bomb. I guess because BBC America is a paid cable station in the US they are looser on the $hit. If it was a regular channel only bitch and ass would be okay.

Wow, someone who actually knows how to use "loose/looser" correctly! YAY!

Anyway, yes, only f--- tends to get bleeped out. Anything else seems to be fine.

I watched a recorded episode this morning from mid november following the US Presedential election. Graham began his monologue by saying "America, what the *beep*?" The f-word was cut out (as it will be in this post). That line made me laugh out loud!
