Impressive accent

Pretty impressive australian accent on Alice Eve, having in mind that she is british. At first I mistook her for Rachael Taylor (the blonde chick in Transformers) because she looks similar and is Australian.

Are you Australian?

I sat there trying to figure out what the hell she was meant to be. I was guessing South African until it was announced she was supposed to be from Aus :s. I thought it was terrible and it made me shudder listening to her! Having learnt she's British, I would have thought she'd be able to pull it off a lot better.

If you could not figure out what accent she was supposed to have then I have to come to the conclusion you are most likely deaf or dumb.

No offense.

I'm Australian and her accent to me sounded more New Zealand than Australian - in fact Ray Liotta's character guessed it right first time!

reply

What are you talking about? even if her accent wasn't perfect she sounds more Australian than South African.

reply

As far as evaluating accents goes, I agree that you always have to rely upon a native speaker or at least someone who has lived in the country in question for a long time. I did not pick up that this actress' accent was bad. I'm interested to know what you thought of Jim Sturgess' accent. I sounded pretty weak to me.

reply

I'd have to agree. I am Australian and she sounded genuine to me. She didn't sound in the least South African.

She sounded like someone who grew up in Adelaide, South Australia. Not all Australians sound the same. The different states do have different accents, mostly subtle, but it's there.

reply

I'm Australian too and I beg to differ.

So, if I'm reading this p0ison person correctly, 20,000,000 Australians spread over 7,617,930 sq. km., all speak in exactly the same accent!!!!! And of course, he has probably travelled the entire country and spoken to all of them so that he can be sure there is only one Australian accent, and therefore this girl was doing it right. Let me guess - you keep forgetting that the boomerang comes back, and it's softened your skull!

Weren't Claire and the Jewish singer both supposed to be Aussies? I didn't detect any specific accent although sometimes she used words and pronunciations that sound a little different. When you live in Los Angeles, foreign accents go with the territory. Even out of state accents.

What floored me was the immigration officer who insisted on deporting the radical Islamic student sympathizer. In the film, Six Days, Seven Nights, she played a voluptuous Hispanic/Tahitian kind of slutty dancer with a thick non-anglo accent. I wonder if Harrison Ford saw her in any of these scenes on the set and said, "hey what happened to your accent?"

I miss Big Band music and talented singers. Leonard Cohen us my idol. Civility, harmony, unity!

As a VICtorian, she sounded Australian to me, too!

Ten out of ten; she is a wonderful actress.

As as West Aussie I have to flaming agree and say it was one of best normal Aussie female accents with all stereotype BS type lingo that Ive heard from a foreign actor .

I'm from Queensland and she sounded Australian to me. I would probably have listened more closely at the time had I thought that she wasn't actually an Aussie but I thought she was. I've never heard a non-Australian pull it off that well before with the exception of a few Kiwi's and even they dropped the ball during a bit of dialogue.

reply

Agreed. She reminded me of Melissa George (even though I knew it wasn't her)... Disclaimer: I am NOT Australian.

Alice Eve sounded more like a New Zealander then Australian.

I'm an Australian and saw this not long after it was screened.. and I thought she was an Aussie.. definitely not an NZ'er..
