He mentioned in one of his Sundance video blogs that there will be a few reviews and interviews coming out on Monday like on wired.com and the New York Times.

ahhh this movie was so bad
i saw it at sundance
pretty much half of the people just left
yea.

reply

To be honest, showing it at sundance sounded like it was gonna herald that kind of audience but to be honest I'm just more anxious to see it now. Even if it's bad I see the whole project as fundamentally ground breaking in its own right. I'm interested in the product on a personal level but really I think that the guy got it aired at sundance is amazing. The fact that he listens to his fans is huge... but anyway I just want to SEE it now.

I was expecting bad reviews right out of the shoot, but we'll see how it goes. I mean you deal with that with any project because reviewers by nature have to remain objective and can't look at the context of the project. They can't see the guy made it himself, they don't see the process, they see the result.

Anyway just anxious to see it now.

Same here. I Don't care if I hate it or not. It's probably gonna be the only film with Visuals designed to excite and fright you. I'm gonna buy it. I really want to see it.

I found this movie boring and unrewarding. It didn't even manage to evoke an emotional response such as hate; it was just useless.

It could have at least been groundbreaking. Which it isn't. At all. Not even a little bit. It didn't really do anything that hasn't been done in a multitude of 80's music videos and/or dozens of animation shorts. It just randomly blends together a bunch of pre-existing visual styles, most of them done poorly or at most at a mediocre level. (They aren't done poorly to fit into the video game look, which most of them don't -- they are just visibly unprofessional.) He didn't even bother to do something about the seams between the different parts, he just left them clashing and all.

The other novelty of the movie is the whole audience-participation and blogging aspect. But that's not really that new at all either. Even Peter Jackson did that for King Kong (albeit at a slightly more restrained way).

So all in all the movie or the project gave me, or showed me, nothing new, and there wasn't even a story to keep me entertained. It's just a self-indulgent mess.

The guy does have some amount of talent, but he desperately needs a director and an editor to keep him in line so he can make an actual movie rather than a series of random images.

Ultimately the measure of a movie is whether there is enough of an audience to warrant renting a theater or pressing a DVD. My feeling is that this movie will end up as a free download, and that most people who get it will stop watching it in about 15 minutes.

The thing is the guy made it himself so I'm expecting it to be rough around the edges, but I really think he might have something to it. It may only appeal to the really geeky, but I still want to see it. I've only ever stopped watching a movie once before in a theater setting (Hollywood Homicide... and hour in I just wanted to give them money to let me out... thank god on that particular day a movie buddy and I went for free) and even if it's just weird for 2 hours. The other thing is hypothetically it's appauling, this probably won't be this guys first work. If he had some people with him and a proper narrative vision, even a poorly made film could be good. I'm also really intrigued by the notion that he really listens to an online community - with the release of this project, however bad, it's gonna garner some attention and possibly if this guy has some practice, he might be one of those fledgling directors that finds an audience on the internet, can shape and mold his craft (using the internet and the feedback he gets) and possibly start something new. I'm already a fan since the guy did the whole movie and posted about it.... *beep* I could forget the movie and just watch the set up for it.

Anyway it's sort of an oddity for me - I just hope this leads to people making movies in their backyard and having it translated to the big screen based on quality rather than commercial benefits.

I'm rooting for him. The film looks really interesting. I can't wait to see it. I expected the reviews to suck as well... Good thing i rarely listen to them anyways.

criticizing art is useless, as it is not a critical process. it's artistic. so the critics can eat me. all art is subjective. except this movie. it's the best movie ever, and everyone who thinks otherwise can choke to death. j/k though what I do appreciate is how far this piece takes the cinematic endeavor from the commercial and into the artistic. it's as if it was created without any consideration for whether or not it would be accepted by another soul whatsoever. and that, my friends, is true art. expression should not be confused with communication. expression is mere transmission, with the distant hope of reception. communication is the compromise that takes place when one translates congnitive processes into a medium that the potential receiver is most likely to understand. so, in short, (too late!) *beep* critics.

M Dot Strange, BEST OF LUCK!!!

Can't wait to see it!!!

reply

While Hollywood generally does not make good movies the few that are good are ALWAYS given back reviews by critics.

The golden rule: if it looks appealing AND critics give it bad reviews - it's DEFINITELY worth seeing! Few people are competent at their jobs and critics are NO exception!

The only time worth walking out on a movie is if it's the ending and it's already started to suck. Godzilla was the only movie I've ever walked out of and it wasn't specifically how they made the ending but how they handled it.

All I want to wish for him (whoever he is) is to stop making nonsense crap that wastes space in this universe.thank you.

reply

Wow that was harsh.

I watched it recently, I have some issues with it, but I think it's a good start. The medium is certainly new, you can't doubt that, and some of those effects were really something new.

It was definitely an art film though. I feel bad being negative about it at all, there was definitely some real work involved here. I could go into it, but I don't like critiquing peoples work that I respect and that's making me biased at the moment. Maybe some other time.

It was a good demo of skills in certain areas though, if he starts catering more to his strengths he could make a really original film. I have high hopes for his next project.
