*ahem*
All right.
I have been eagerly anticipating this movie for (I wish I were kidding) 3 years. The past 3 years of my life have been itchy because of this movie sitting in the back of my head constantly ticking away, making me doubt the existence of God.
I just ordered my DVD this afternoon, and it should be in my hands, then in a DVD player before the end of the week. After I have watched it the first time I will reply to this and comment. After I have watched it a second time I will do the same. And again for a few more times afterward, spaced out in between.
This, of course, is to try (oh... such a simple word to say) to give a more objective take on the film as a whole. Now, truth be told, I am what some people might consider a "nerd" in movies, anime, cartoons, video games, music, etc. Does that make me a better receptor for this film? Probably. Does this mean I can take an unbiased stance and view the film for what it is and to be able to give an objective opinion of it? Most likely. Would I like to see all of you nay-sayers and 15-minutes-in-leavers burned alive? Well, more on that later...
I am truly excited for this film. The negative feedback, although perfectly normal and expected, is pretty trashy, though. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but the majority of you say "I couldn't sit through more than 10 minutes of this crap" or "It was just a bunch of nonsensical sounds and pictures moving too quickly and flashy lights wahh".
To you, I say:
1) It's art. Grow up.
2) Open your mind just a little.
3) Quit relying on words for explanation. You'll find that the phrase "A picture's worth 1,000 words" is truer than you would ever believe.
4) Watch it again. Seriously. Give it another chance and watch it until the end. Let the hype die down, relax, and just enjoy it (keeping in mind the first 3 tasks).
This is his first feature-length film. It's not going to be pure gold, but I do believe it could come dreadfully close. It's going to be rough, it's going to be a little funky, and probably even a little hard to get into at first, but that's perfectly normal (and even expected of first-time directors (especially, of course, the fact that he made the entire film himself)).
Let's all hope that our burning desires and hopes/dreams of this film don't die in vain.
