why was this movie made ?

*this is a repost of a thread I made over at www.theouthousers.com I figured I'd put it here becuase this is more of a target audience*

I was going to make a formal review but I figure it may be a very small amount of people that I'd be talk to.I am a huge fan of the original TV series Neon Genesis it may be my favorite television show of all time.In fact Eva may have ruined all other anime for me because after it I have not found another series that has come close and on a whole anime bores me to tears. So when I heard that series creator Hideaki Anno was making a series of films (4 I believe) basically rebooting the franchise I was intrigued. the first film Evangelion :1.0 you are (not) alone was released all the way back in 2007,yeah I'm a bit behind ..oops but I watch this film yesterday and here are my thoughts on it

as you diehard eva fans will know one of the series less desirable traits is it's need to rehash things to the view over and over again, the last 2 episodes of the series was basically a clip show (untill the much better "End of evangelion" film was released) they also released what imo was the biggest rip off to fans I have ever seen the "death" and "rebirth" films death being a cliff notes version of the entire show with very little new footage added, while rebirth was the first 30 minutes of the end of evangelion film which ends right as a main character of the series is torn to pieces I guess one could take it ass a comerical for the end of eva movie, the problem being it was released at the same time as end of eva (in the U.S. anyway). But I' getting off topic Evangelion 1.0 is not so much a reboot but more a remake of the first 6 episodes of the original series,in some case a shot by shot remake.Of course all the episodes are streamlined down quite a bit to fit in the time allotted for a regular feature length film. But this is the biggest problem with the movie since they had to streamline everything all you're left with is a weak story and flat one dimensional characters. In short it just doesn't work as a stand alone film which is what I guess he was going for.But I would go so far as to say if that unless you're a diehard fan of the series this movie would make no sense at all.So in closing I just don't get the point of this movie, is it supposed to appeal to fans of the old series ? because if so there's pretty much no reason to watch this fim because you're given no new information or very very little .Or is it for new fans ? because if that's the case you're going to leave them totally lost with what I think is a poor impression of the greatness of the original show.

Eventually some things are going to get reworked. I remember reading an interview where the director said if he had the chance he would of done something’s differently... So expect it in the future.

I was watching the blu-ray today (finally got it in the mail); it was great!!! It took the series I know and love and successfully converts it into a movie form that others can enjoy. I think what is interesting is this set of movies will be more accessible to a mass audience. Not everyone has the time or will power to push through a 26 eps series... But splitting it up into movies, in a sense turns it into Starwars or LOTR. It puts it in that same trilogy/quad caliber set of films to be adored be many.

A better ending I guess. So not to confuse the noobs, they had to rehash the series so they could release it.

If you haven't seen Evangelion 2.22 (the visually fixed version of Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance), there is an Auska version of "The Introduction To Pen-Pen" that is outright hilarious.

And yes, the last two episodes of the original Evangelion anime seemed to turn into a self help seminar on how to live your life.

But you forget, concerning Auska's nipples, in End of Evangelion, we do see Auska's nipples in the scene where Shinji visits her, when she was basicly in a coma, in the hospital...

...And then a couple of scenes later, we see, as it was called in the commentary, "Baby Batter", in Shinji's hand as he utters the line "I'm so eff-ed up."

Note: Shinji should have done a lot worse, then we could have heard Auska say the line "Why does my butt hurt?" after coming out of the coma (If you get my meaning so).

There are eventually going to be some HUGE changes. This movie is the first of four, but Hideaki Anno said the early episodes are--more or less--how he wanted them to begin with, so he didn't want to change much. Every series has to start somewhere, though, so they made this movie. All three of the movies from here on out will have huge changes, though.

Look at the scene in Rebuild of Evangelion 2.22, immediately after Shinji "bumps" into Mari.

Shinji is listening to his Walkman. Instead of the tape goimg from 26 to 25, like it has done for the last 15 years, it goes from 26 to 27.

As Shinji says "Hey, that's weird.", I'm thinking "The program is changing!".
