I guess all of the Billy Mitchell haters can rejoice.

I never really had a strong opinion either way about Mitchell. But for all the haters he's no longer #1. He's not even top 5 anymore.

Why should they care if you or anyone else cares? Their journey in life has nothing to do with others opinions of the value of what they choose to spend their lives doing.

One could argue that you are wasting your time commenting on a documentary about a topic you can't find value in. If that's not a waste of your time I don't know what is.

I should add that this documentary is about much much more than who is the best at playing a video game. If you see it only on that superficial level then fair enough but you have missed an insightful look into being a human.

Amen. The previous poster evidently missed the point of the film entirely.

I don't think many people ever cared about who had the highest DK score. It's a niche activity with a small talent pool.

Well, for the longest time (mid-80s to late-90s) no one cared. TG was functionally non-existent for many years back then, as documented by Dwayne Richard. And this is one big reason Billy's record lasted for as long. Really, almost no one cared to beat these scores.

Then the internet and the MAME emulator revived now-vintage arcade gaming by making a community of players possible again. And, people who grew up back then became old enough to afford indulging their nostalgia by creating their own home arcade (see: The Video Craze (2013)). The interest in DK above all other classic arcade games today happens to be due to King of Kong. There's a small but dedicated community that DOES care about it, maybe more than ever - though perhaps in a different way to when DK playing was at its height during early 80s and Billy made his legendary (and still hugely impressive, for the time) score.

It's just a hobby; and most hobbies just don't have any meaning outside those who participate. And, really, most hobbyists don't care about the mockery: of them as adults playing with toy trains, or of them playing a 35 years old arcade game. It's fun for us and a way to challenge ourselves.

BTW, now that I mentioned nostalgia. It's important to note that the two top DK players are in their 20s. That must say something about the influence of the film.

See the website donkeykongforum dot com to check out the community as well as the current high scores standings. :)

Yup.

Proud hater of the giant mouldy turd known as Bitchy Bitchell. Are you guys going to cry about it?

Can you film it like Billy did with his score in the movie?
