It has the structure of a martial arts film where the master swears off violence. The end was icing, tasty tasty icing, but I enjoyed the film a lot no matter what. I'll have to watch it again sometime.
shareI enjoyed this too. I wouldn't call it noir. It's an urban western. Law is ineffectual and you have to take justice in your own hands, like Shane or Pale Rider. Noir is much darker in that there's no chance for redemption and almost all characters are corrupted. This has too many good citizens.
I streamed an Asian film a couple years ago that featured a reformed assassin laying low. He befriends a ten year old girl from down the hall. Her mother's killed by the mob(?) And the girl is snatched. Our hero kicks some serious ass to free her. Do you know what I'm describing? I'll check back. I'd really like to see again and check out actor and director's other stuff.
