People! Don't Visit Third World Countries Like Indonesia!

This documentary should serve as the ultimate example for Westerners not visiting disgusting, third world Muslim countries like Indonesia. They are inherently corrupt, possess kangaroo courts, and do not have the rights normally afforded civilized societys'. In a way, she almost got what she was asking for. This Sh*t culture just loved imprisoning a young, pretty Australian girl. It's sad the Australian government didn't do more to put pressure on Indonesia. They should have jumped in earlier and threatened to cut ties to this disgusting country. Here's a question to all you liberals out there- Where is Amnesty International demanding this girl's release? If this isn't a Human Rights violation, I don't know what is! And foreigners still visit this sh*t-hole country!

I don't mean to scrutinize your religion, I just hate it when people say that Muslims are 'inherently' corrupt or evil, or that all of they're countries are amoral. That was more than implied in the OP, and says a whole lot about the person that says it.

A true show of ignorance:

Bali is the only country in Indonesia which is MAJORITY, get ready now, Hindu!!!!!! You ignorant, uneducated, illiterate moron...I'd rather be in a third world country, helping to improve their lives, than sitting in the comfort of my industrialized, western apartment spouting verbal diarrhea in an effort to prove how poorly the American education system has failed (some of) us.

According to Wikipedia, 88% of Indonesians are Muslim, less than 2% are Hindu.

Thanks for pointing out the OP's ignorance raveoddgrl.Aside from the fact that Bali is predominantly Hindu, I have travelled to Malayasia, Indonesia (both majority Muslim), and also Tanzania where coastal areas have a high proportion of Muslims in the population and have found the people to be wonderful and very welcoming to Americans. Does the OP realize that many people are afraid to travel to the US because of their perception of the violence here and their fears about how they will be treated by ignorant and prejudiced Americans? People who refuse to travel and refuse to educate themselves about the rest of the world do not make any of us any safer.
And kitten252--it is conservatives who have been leaders in the criminalization of marijuana, and conservative administrations like Reagan and the Bushes that have ramped up extreme criminal penalties for it, and the conservative biased media that has demonized it--you clearly have been smoking too much of the stuff!

reply

Excellent post milliken. There were other posts from last year like yours that shot down some of ignorance in this thread. But they ended up being flagged and taken down because some didn't like truth.

reply

While I agree that in the last couple decades, the presidential administrations of some of my greatest heroes including Reagan and Bush have contributed to the often outrageous prison sentences imposed on marijuana-related arrests, the continuing "war on drugs" has also helped to alleviate the import of potentially lethal drugs like heroin and cocaine, as well as the heinous crimes that are committed as a consequence of the manufacture, transportation and peddling of these man-made concoctions on the streets.

In any intelligent social or political circle, I do not believe that marijuana can possibly be classified in the same category, being one of God's live creations and a plant grown in the ground with no additives.

BTW, if you do your research, a plethora of geniuses have made priceless contributions to history by what was considered "smoking too much of the stuff."

Honey, you must be really young and naive. I've been supplementing the so-called "poor people" in this country and every other one on this planet for 30 long damn years!

Well, we're not discussing the teeny tiny portion of Indonesia called Bali. Indonesia itself is over 88% Muslim. I would rather be in the comfort of my century-old farmhouse busting my ass for an American paycheck, which taxes pay for the "worldly" needs of a third-world country prosecuting innocent people for revenue. Oh, by the way, I pay for this sh*tty country's "worldly" needs in my hard-earned taxes without a say in the matter. STILL PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!

Have you joined the Peace Corps yet? You'd fit right in!

While we are at it, let's not visit the United States either until they get rid of their death penalty. Amnesty International has a lot to say about that too.

reply

I don't. The US has more in common with Iran and such countries than it does with most Western countries.

reply

Please do not even attempt to align my country with anything remotely associated with Iran. What's your real name anyway, B. Hussein Obama?

Sorry, you're dead wrong. Without corporal punishment for the crime of first-degree murder, America's homicide statistics would be off the map. It's just a travesty that not all states mandate the death penalty. Until you experience the pain and agony of one of your friends or family members being brutally killed by another person, your liberal opinion means jack-sh*t.

Besides, this girl did not kill anyone, so the point you've weakly presented is moot in this thread.

It's all wine and roses when your lives are going well and you can say you are an advocate of "Amnesty" YAY! Woo-freakin'-hoo! Let's all join hands and sing Kumbaya since we all love each other SO MUCH! Right?

As I've posted before, until one of your friends or a family member is a victim of a senseless and brutal crime, I guess you liberal idiots will never quite grasp the meaning of and the reason for the death penalty. I pray you will never know the anguish of a beautiful life lost at the hands of a maniac who deserves nothing less than to die for his/her senseless crime. Go ahead and live your naive little lives thinking that this travesty will never happen to you. I challenge you to ponder how your views would change if, God forbid, one of your children, spouse, parent, sibling or best friend was murdered. How would you honestly deal with and give some sort of value to their lives if you let the monster who stole it just get away with their crime? Just a thought.

I totally agree, where are all the liberals when you need them? Oh, that's right...they're too busy drinking the poisoned punch of rampant socialism that's served to them on a silver platter of BS! The fact that our beloved US seems to heading in this dangerous direction, thanks to B. Hussein Obama, who wants more government involvement here, scares the living crap outta me!

People...this is what happens in an assbackwards country like Indonesia. If you don't watch your own privileged asses, it will soon be rearing its ugly head in a country near you.

And I can't help but keep coming back to this thought...marijuana is merely a freakin' plant that grows in the ground! It is not mixed with anything, processed in any dangerous lab, or otherwise tainted in any way. It is what it is, one of God's many live wonders which he intended for us to use in positive ways.

Question: How did the presence of this God-given medicinal herb become such a pariah in nearly every society on the planet? Answer: Members of the liberal media first perpetuated hate for this plant in the 1930s and to this day, continue to do so on a worldwide level. Especially when a crime involving weed also happens to concern the lifestyle of an attractive, young girl like Schapelle. It's all about financial gain, strictly and always for moneatry reasons. A story like this reaps tons of revenue for everyone involved except, of course, for herself and her poor family and friends.

Just try to imagine how much financial gain would be realized by third world countries like this if they just legalized what should never have been rendered illegal to begin with. Not only would the tax-burdened citizens of the USA be relieved of relentlessly providing aid to ailing countries that don't deserve our hard-earned money, but America would finally be able to pull its head out of our governmentally controlled and ever-tightening sphincter of a recession if we just opened our eyes to the benefits of this cash crop.

kitten, i love ya!

im against the death penalty, though. there is always the chance for executing an innocent. plus, have you heard the theory that its not applied consistently based on race? i believe this may be true, and should be examined and studied.

reply

While this may have been true several years ago before the advent of DNA testing and other gigantic advances in forensic technology, there is absolutely no chance these days that an innocent person would be facing the death penalty without solid proof beyond reasonable doubt (DNA evidence).

As far as your comment about the death penalty not being applied consistently upon race...you never finished your point. But fortunately for those who are interested in facts, I can quote from the statistics on this: African Americans make up about 13%, give or take, of the United States' population. BUT...the population of U.S. prisons is 65% black. HOWEVER...the EXECUTIONS of WHITE prisoners in this country has risen in the last 30 years from 57% to 79% and the EXECUTIONS of BLACK prisoners in this country has plummeted from 34% to 14%.

But back to the original thread on which this movie is based: People who are caught growing marijuana, a plant in the ground, on average receive a considerably longer prison sentence than someone who assaults and/or rapes a child, robs a bank using a deadly weapon, or murders their own spouse in cold blood.

What do the above statements tell you about our own "justice system" here in the USA? And I reiterate, if you feel the above is outrageous, aggregious *beep* in your own country, how do you think you would be treated in a country like Indonesia? Do not go there!

The Balinese are majority hindu. Indonesia is still the largest muslim nation in the world.

The death penalty is not a good idea unless we have a foolproof legal system, or innocent people will be killed by the state. As has happened far too often, even in the good ol' USofA.

Your education system is still sadly lacking, and some of the posts in this thread bear testimony to this fact.

reply

Please see my other intelligent and succinct posts for complete answers to naive statements, such as this one, concerning the death penalty. We DO have a FOOLPROOF legal system in this county as far as murder is concerned, in this country. It is called DNA testing and is it as FOOLPROOF as we can get in 2009. Like 99.99% accurate, kiddies. READ A BOOK! Or if you're too lazy for that, watch "Forensic Files."

Religion aside, I'm just going to say that if the opportunity presented itself for travel to Indonesia, Schapelle Corby's case would be the first thing I'd think of and I'd really have some serious considering to do.

Whether or not she's innocent or guilty, there's always that "what if she was completely innocent?" part of me that turns me off Indonesia after watching this documentary. I know it could happen any where to any one, but still.

reply

The main reason that Amnesty International and the Australian government didn't do anything to help her is because she's guilty as charged and is getting what she deserved. Entire countries are not going to change their laws to fit your "enlightened" world view.

And Indonesia is a beautiful country with beautiful people and culture.

Om Mani Padme Hum

reply

How dare you make the claim that she is guilty and getting what she deserved? Were you a cockroach hitching a ride on her luggage to be able to honestly publish that statement?

Maybe Indonesia is more welcoming and "beautiful" to someone with a name like yours. To a young woman like Schapelle, not so much.

Go smoke a fatty and quit being so uptight, Om Mani Padme Hum. Having an "enlightened" world view really isn't that bad for ya.

Not true. If you follow the laws and don't smuggle drugs into the counrty, Indonesia is welcoming and beautiful to any and everyone.

I just might do that. First I'll contact the Corbys for some pot.

In a plethora of these "welcoming and beautiful" countries, the punishments do not fit the crimes. A perfect example is the recent case of the woman in Malaysia who faces the wrath of the cane for drinking a beer!

SHEER MADNESS!

Thank God I live in the USA and I'm still proud to say so, even if the current socialist administration is trying to destroy everything our great country was founded upon. At the end of the long, dark tunnel of higher taxes, financial strife and recession, Election 2012 will be the shining light of new prosperity as we shed the shriveled, yellowed skin of liberalism and embrace a life once again that is independent of left-wing government involvement.

I can't wait!

A small response because I SO didn't want to get caught up in this incredible storm of ugliness:

kitten252:
A. I never said anything about the death penalty. I am an avid supporter of the death penalty, when DNA evidence can be presented. I also know that sometimes (after the death of a close friend) DNA evidence either cannot be found or is too degraded to prosecute. Because of people like you who put all their faith in DNA evidence, it is getting harder to convict people (like OJ Simpson and Robert Blake) without it.
B. Don't call me "little girl", "young lady" or whatever condescending thing that you said to me earlier.
C. I have my card when I'm in California. I smoke the best of the best.
D. No, I haven't joined the Peace Corps.
E. Any country, regardless of religious makeup, that imprisons someone without due process is wrong. I am as patriotic as anyone else. I did not insult Ms. Corby or say that I didn't believe her. I had a very real complaint about someone's assumption about the religious makeup of the country. That is akin to saying that everyone in the United States is Protestant. Almost an entire island is majority Hindu and have built a very proud culture and heritage around it. The original OP suggested that everyone on the island was Hindu, thus denying their national heritage.

And I am done.

Es que no tenerte aquí ya me hace mal - Shakira

reply

It's not only muslim countries. Philippines is 90% catholic and had the death penalty for drug smuggling but recently it has changed to life. Almost all island nations are corrupt...in the US it's corrupt as well, if you have a good lawyer you can get away with most crimes or plead no contest. What about all the people that have been executed on death row when years later they are found innocent by DNA tests? DO you just choose to pretend that doesn't happen here? She had weed in her bag, she got caught, period. no matter what country your in, if you get caught with 10 lbs. of weed your doing some hard time...Nobody put a gun to her head to go there...

reply

I'd say visit countries that allow u to visit, but weight every decision you make and inform yourself beforehand. I think many people, especially westerners, believe that when they step outside of their countries they are free of responsabilities, they get a sense of entitlement.
