Don't boycott a country because an easily preventable event occurred!

Numerous threads are saying to boycott vacations to third-world countries like Indonesia. I think the real moral of this story is to NOT attempt to illegally import or export drugs into and out of countries with harsh drug laws. Also put good locks on all of your luggage. This will rule out any involvement of third-parties potentially planting drugs in your luggage. If you don't have drugs in your possession and your luggage is locked tight, you have essentially removed all possibility of being the next Schapelle Corby.

You just have to be very careful going to countries that don't have as rigorous of legal systems as places like Australia and the USA. Also you have to realize you are dealing with people that aren't going to be able to comprehend the English language (or whatever non-native language you speak) as well as you so that will also play a part if you are trying to defend yourself.

Don't demonize an entire country just because someone was either very stupid or extremely unlucky. If it is true that Schapelle and her family weren't really involved, then having good locks on their luggage would have prevented tampering. The fact is that they were either extremely stupid (tried to smuggle drugs) or didn't take the proper measures to insure their luggage's integrity and were very unlucky.

I demonize the country for executing non violent drug offenders.Their laws are backwards.
Thats a mighty fine reason to never spend a penny of my money there.

3 reasons why your thread is stupid:

1. All locks must be TSA approved locks that can be opened by TSA with a skeleton key. So, the lock you put onto your luggage can easily be opened once it is checked in.

2. If your luggage back has a lock on it, it can easily be cut open and drugs could be put into your bag during transportation of your luggage. Good luck proving you had a lock on your bag.

3.

You just have to be very careful going to countries that don't have as rigorous of legal systems as places like Australia and the USA...

Please look up the definition of rigorous, because you're an idiot.

Thank you for playing.

I'm english and visited Australia about 10 years ago, stopping in Bali en-route.
I also happen to have been visiting OZ at the time of the trial, and was very affected by it.
I probably would never return to Bali anyway, but after this and as another poster said, with laws like that, no chance I would ever enter that country again.

The concept of if I put a lock on my luggage doesn't suddenly make it seem like it's all ok.

I didn't really like the place anyway, and their drug laws that I understand now, and their legal system that has been demonstrated regarding Schapelle, only make boycott in my case unavoidable.

The people ultimately decide the laws.

I will demonize their country until they get their ish together and stop blaming their problems on marijuana.
