this movie sounds very similar to the book of the same title, only the book is more along the lines of a zombie apocalypse, whereas this is like a mad max rip off kinda...anyone know??

No, most definitely not. The Craig DiLouie book was focused on a military evacuation of a scientist during the zombie apocalypse, whereas this travesty is an unintentionally hilarious look at life post peak oil.
