Better Than Most Horror Films Out There

Some people on this board it seems were disapointed in this film. That is something I do not understand. I am not one for horror films generally, but TOOTH and NAIL was on of the better horror films I have ever seen. Perhaps, for some there was not enough torture and blood as in pornographic violence as seen in films such as the SAW and HOSTEL films.
For anyone who sugests that the idea of people turning canibalistic is far fetched only need look at our society today which has become totally complacent to acts of violence against mankind close to that of the Days of Rome.
Have people forgotten that canibalism was acted out not to long ago when that plane went down in the Andes.
TOOTH and NAIL has much to think about, certainly more than most horror films made today for the masses of adolescent jerks who find violence COOL.

it's not that there wasn't enough gore (such as Hostel and Saw), it just wasn't that good of a movie. It started out ok and I liked the idea of the gas depleting and the world ending, but after watching the characters make one stupid mistake after another (such as trying to "hide," but run around noisily with a light instead...cause ya know, you look really hidden then), I got sick of them. And I'm still trying to figure out where Victoria is.

This was the first one of the Eight Movies to Die For that I've seen. I hope I find some of the rest better than this one. Yeah, I liked the post-apocalyptic setting, too, and they had some cool sets, but overall it was pretty disappointing.

Where IS Victoria?

"I prefer to remember things my own way ... not necessarily the way they happened."

As far as horror movies go, I'd say the characters in this film were no more stupid than characters in most horror films.

Well, maybe this movie really is better than most of horror films out there, but it's still BAD. But first, I want to salute the director&writer&editor Mark Young for actually going out there and doing something. Good for him.

That said, he's not skillful at what he does. The dialog was horrible, movie has zero chilling atmosphere, the behavior of characters was stupid and the ending was ridiculous (you know what I have in mind).

It's seems that horror is the genre for unimaginative writers. The voice over at the end about beast in us, which is waiting to be set free is such a worn out cliche. Oh, and story is far fetched. With most people gone, wildlife would be everywhere. People would go after animals for meat.

If you want to see what's possible to do with the basic idea "put a group of people in abandoned building and some scary stuff happens", watch Session 9.

to each their own but one wonders what you find "good" if you liked tooth and nail.

i'm really not to hard to please with movies and it was one of the worst movies i've seen....at least in recent times.

why i didn't like it?

just a bit to ricockulous....and the story and the characters...stupid.

reply

I thought it was fine. Not great, definitely flawed, but fine. Let's face it great horror movies are pretty darn rare. That doesn't stop dozens from being made each year. Tooth and Nail was definitely better than I expected.

As always the idea and concept are good, even promising which is how they suckered us into watching it with the cool packaging but the execution was lame. Madsen, Caradine and Vinnie must have owed someone a favor to take bit parts in this junk.

reply

when i think of quality movies......Madsen,Caradine and Vinnie are the last names I would associate with the word. Anytime i see Madsen name attached to cast...i run.

reply

Yeah, but even the drek they usually star in is light years better than this. Their parts were negligible for the most part, except for Carradine's. They could have gotten anyone to play Madsen and Vinnie's insignificant parts. The producers were obviously hoping their names would sucker in a few more saps.

I would agree with you if you said that this movie was "Better Than Most B Movie Horror Films That Have Really Cool Box Covers But Turn Out To Be Extremely Low Budget And Crappy And Something That You Would See On Showtime At 3 In The Morning So From Here On Out I Will Never Rent A Horror Movie I Have Never Heard Of Where The Cover Looks Good But There Are No Live Movie Clip Pictures On The Back To Give Me An Idea Of How The Movie Itself Actually Looks." But since you didn't, I have to disagree.

Not among the best horror films, but not one of the worst either.

🐺 Boycott movies that involve real animal violence (& their directors) 🐾
