Much better than expected

For what it is worth, it is so much better than most of the crap out there. I was totally surprised. Great job done by all. This director has a great future.

reply

I just went because it was part of the Horrorfest but it was actually a good movie. I was also surprised at the amount of familiar actors in the movie as well. It was a lot of fun and better than expected.

While I respect your opinion, I was bored out of my mind...and the fact that killed off Madsen and I didn't get to see more of his "acting" sucked. And what was with the horrid dialogue of the "Rovers"?

Better than expected? Sorry, I don't believe expectations can be that low.

The movie was dreadful from start to finish, beginning with the ridiculous gasoline apocalypse scenario. Pure idiocy.

Some of the lines were real howlers: "I don't want to be the leader - I'm already the doctor!"

It was also funny that when picking a new leader in a life and death situation, the characters were acting like stupid high school kids deciding who would be president of the club.

Bottom line I walked out of this film.

Please dont waste your money on this if you havent already.

Anyone who thinks this movie was above a 4/10 is insane.

reply

4/10 is about right, But I laughed pretty hard..so I didn't walk out.

Gee, does Madsen's character die in the movie? Thanks for the mini-spoiler! :(

reply

Well, its better to know that Jones and Madsen aren't in the movie enough to warrant being excited about seeing them.

Count me in with the pleasantly surprised. The cast did fine (I'm on record as a big Rachel Miner fan and she delivered), the look was different and cool, the shooting inventive, the locations distinctive. Yes, the character names made no sense, some of the dialogue was cliche, but the delivery by the actors was absolute fun! For me it worked less as horror/suspense and more as a sci-fi, cautionary survival tale of ordinary young people (not super heroes or kick butt action figures) caught in a terrible situation. They weren't the brightest bunch, just ordinary peeps who were way too dependent on their leader/father figure and hadn't had to do much thinking for themselves.

BTW, on some threads much is made of the cannibalistic thing, but the movie wasn't saying the whole world had gone cannibalistic, just this band of Neanderthals -- somehow I can't see the Rovers farming -- which is why the kids had no expectation of their attacks.

Good God please tell me you're joking...this movie sucked giant manatee sack. It struck a perfect balance between no action and zero character development. I've never seen a movie with so much dialogue that had absolutely no positive effect on the plot. I was mind-numbingly bored throughout the entire film.

reply

People, relax and take the movie for what it is. It's a post-apocalyptic thriller and it was actually pretty good. was it the best movie ever? no. but it may have EASILY been the best of this years horrorfest.

please, someone tell me which movie of the 8 was better than this one, and why.

reply

Andrew, you are right about it being the best of Horrorfest, but isn't that like bragging about being the thinnest at a fat camp? It still doesn't make you thin, and it doesn't make this movie good. Sorry, dude. Let's raise that bar a peg or two.

reply

I TOTALLY agree.

Actually I was expecting a lot from this movie.
I had seen most of the 1st Annual and was pleased with a certain amount of them,so I was really psyched when they announced they were coming out with a 2nd Annual.

Why are people baggin on these movies?

Sure, some of them are downright horrible, some of them are good, and some of them are great!!!

You just have to understand, that most of these movies didn't get that much to work with, and sometimes directors, writers, producers, etc.,have to work with what they got.

These films are actually the better of most B-movies,and I think they are the most enjoyable B-movies there are.

This is the best of the whole "16" films in the Afterdark Horrorfest...

Good analogy but no, he's not right about Tooth and Nail being the best of Horrorest. Borderland is a few billion times better than Tooth and Nail. As for why (since andrew asked for what is better and why): Borderland has a much better & more serious horror atmosphere; Borderland's characters are actually somewhat likeable and intelligent (unlike in Tooth and Nail); Borderland's dialogue is sensible (unlike in Tooth and Nail); Borderland is actually scary and tense (unlike in Tooth and Nail), Borderland has much more interesting cinematography, scenery, visual style, and variety of environments; Borderland's villains are truly terrifying (unlike in Tooth and Nail where they are simply a joke); Borderland has much better acting (although this is probably partially due to Borderland working as a semi-serious movie, whereas Tooth and Nail is [unintentionally?] like a bad comedy that isn't funny at all, and can't work on any sort of serious level; hence that is not entirely the actors' fault for giving really bad performances in Tooth and Nail).

Tooth and Nail is a 1/10 just the same as most of the other Horrorfest movies. What precisely is supposed to make Tooth and Nail better than any of the worst of the Horrorfest movies?

Thread title is also wrong. There's nothing good about Tooth and Nail. It's not better than expected. It's Uwe Boll-level bad.

reply

Actually Borderland AND Tooth & Nail are the best out of any of them.

I gave T&N a 8.1
and Borderland a 8.0

Still, this going back to WHY are people bagging on these movies so much?
The ones people SHOULD be trashing are The Hamiltons,Nightmare Man,and Crazy Eights. Those were the worst out of all of them and they should leave Tooth & Nail,Lake Dead, and Unearthed alone.

reply

I agree. This film was a lot of fun. It took itself seriously and delivered on what the premise promised. Plus the cast was quite solid.

"We're all part Shatner/And part James Dean/Part Warren Oates/And Steven McQueen"

reply

This wasn't as bad as many claimed; if the characters were smarter, the dialogues better, some scenes more serious and less cliché, this film could have easily been a solid post-apocalyptic horror/drama. Still a decent work.
