The Potter's Field-missed the last 10 mins-can u tell me how it ends?!

Missed it first time around and was watching it on iPlayer last night. Unfortunately the session expired 10 minutes from the end just as Montalbano was explaining the whole thing to Fazio on his terrace!

Would someone put me out of my misery and tell me what happened?! Per piacere! :-)

Hi

Later that evening Salvo gets a call from the anti-Mafia guy Manannucco, confirming that the blood found in the bin and in the syringe is that of Giovani Alfano, Dolores' husband. They chat and Salvo asks him if he has received the letter he concocted and reminds him to post it onwards. Salvo says he'll wait for the reaction to its arrival before making a further move.

Giuseppe Fazio and Salvo are next seen outside the Police Station talking about what they'll do when Mimi Augello comes in. Fazio will show Mimi the article in the paper which will send Mimi on a hunt all day around various offices: Salvo tells Fazio to stick with Mimi no matter what, keeping him busy and that when he eventually does return to the Station, to send him in to see Salvo who will then tell him about Dolores' arrest (all going to plan). Fazio is told to be there as well.

Meanwhile, having received the letter, Dolores meets the elderly (Royalist!) cleaner at the house, with Dolores dressed in her widow's weeds. The cleaner confronts her, tells her she knows all and that she wants a big pay-off. Dolores threatens her, saying that what happened to her husband might happen to her if she's not careful. With that a door opens and she is arrested (by Manannucco) for the murder of her husband and escorted out of the building by two attending carabinieri. Salvo is waiting as they all pass by; Dolores stops and glares at him, daggers drawn; he looks her straight back in the eye, neither of them saying word, as she then continues on to her fate.

Later back at the station, Salvo tells Fazio to send in Mimi. He takes a deep breath then gets into part, an act for Mimi's benefit, histrionically revealing how Dolores had fooled them all and that she confessed to killing her husband in Gioia Tauro. Mimi can't believe it as he's convinced all the evidence he's spent time gathering points to him being killed by the Mafia. Salvo reminds him that she's confessed, that she took them all for a ride, mentioning her lover Pecorini, all of which causes Mimi to faint and end up on the floor!

The next scene is outside the Police Station with Beba, Mimi and little Salvo packing for a holiday. Salvo is there and Mimi collars him, apologising for his behaviour lately, for his collapsing and for doing everything wrong, both as a man and as a policeman. Salvo simply tells him we're all human and we all make mistakes. Mimi thanks him for his patience while he was in such a bad place and for his more than usually lenient treatment, which Salvo says he'd better not get used to. Mimi then says that although he might be an idiot he's not a total idiot and that he bets that Salvo was in some way behind the resolution to the case. Salvo simply tells him to have a good holiday. Mimi turns round to go off then comes back to Salvo and gives him a heart-felt hug in thanks for saving his skin.

Beba and Mimi drive off, followed shortly afterwards by Salvo.

I hope this helps; I absolutely loved this episode.

That's brilliant! Thank you SO much! I was beginning to think I would never get an answer...
I've really enjoyed the series, but am I right in thinking there are no more books, and therefore, no more episodes?! :-(

You're welcome!

There must be quite a few previously written and recorded ones still to be shown on BBC4; that is prior to this latest 2011 series. Hopefully there are anyway.

As for any newer ones, I simply don't know. Perhaps someone else might be able to help.

Chris
