writing was clumsy. seemed lilke two diff stories

still, i am a lover of french films so i watched it all through

but i kept wondering WTF at some points.

it seemed the girl's story had jack all to do with the killer pursuit.

also i thought it overplayed the depressed cop line. i was like, okay enough already, i get it.

and some things were not well communicated. like, how did the old guy get out of prison? he just 'showed up' in a truck. what?

but anyway, liked the acting, loved the scenery and the photography. (makes me wanna go to marseilles!) also the lead guy reminded me of a french ray winstone, sorta. similar voice too

i also think it dragged on way too long. i bet i could reedit it down to 90 minutes and it would be a lot better. shorter scenes, and even cut some altogether

and i would play with the order of the sequences too. like, move all the prison stuff a lot earlier in the storyline.

I also wondered if we'd get a Max Cady type exit from prison ('91 Cape Fear - classic scene!), but there was no such thing. I'd also be interested in someone's explanation on story links between pursuing the at-large killer and the one who was freed.

story links between pursuing the at-large killer and the one who was freed
Both men were sadistic rapists who brutally murdered their victims. In addition they were each protected by an authority: Becker's father in the security department and Subra by the church.

They show too the evolution and spiral downwards of Louis who never knew such people existed when he investigated Subra but by the time of Becker's case he's well acquainted with them.
