It's the name of a revolver which has been used by the French police.
It is said to be a very good weapon. "The weapon of a prince" as an old police instructor said while showing me one.
Cool. So do you just say M R 73? Any idea what it stands for? And what about the English translation of RmR 73? Is that what we would call tht pistol in English?

MR stands for Manurhin, the compagnie that profuced the gun. 73 because it was designed in 1973. Like you said, it's just pronounced M R 73.
RmR 73 is an alternate designation for the gun (and the first title of the film). I guess in that case the first R stands for revolver.
Here's a link in English. And you can also find some info on the French Wikipedia.

mr 73 is a specific revolver used by swat teams only, while the rmr 1 is a revolver made by manurhin with a ruger frame (ruger manurhin revolver) later manurhin f1, now since 2006 it is a specially designed sig pro 2022
shareYes, the MR 73 has a forged iron frame. The RMR has a frame made of cast iron which seriously reduces the cost.
