Sickly and disturbing beautiful psychological foreign war film

This is my first Finnish film and I watched it at 2 in the morning (because insomnia). I was sort of intrigued by the lead actor after seeing him in a more recent American production and I wanted to watch another of his films. And so I watched this one. I must say I was impressed! The script is so twisted and unexpected and sad it just can't not move you a little bit! On the side, it is yet another depiction of why wars are the worst thing ever. And after all they've been through and are still about go to through, a few people can maintain their humanity and compassion and are able to sacrifice themselves for care of others.
Some questions with spoilers now: Do you think Miina was merely using him and, like, emotionally manipulating him in order for him to set her free? Or do you think she really cared for him? Was she possibly able to care for men, after all she's been through with them? I mean, his feelings for her seemed obvious after doing what he did and getting himself killed for her escape, right?
