I can't believe that Flame was such an inept assassin

In the film he was talked out of killing people three times by the intended victim.
An interesting film but it borders on fantasy.

Do love this movie but have to agree.
I read a review of the film and the reviewer referred to him as being "as suggestible as a spinster on a cruise". Seemed quite apt.

reply

That and his soft spot for women. Really seems like the movie is collaborationist propaganda. Or maybe it's just conforming to official "culture" of pacifism and feminism of modern Europe. Or maybe they are the same thing...

And how old was he ? IIRC, he was 23. The average 23 yr old doesn't become a trained assassin over night. I would think most people would have a hard time just walking up to a person and putting a bullet it their head. Hard enough on the field of battle but in some ones home ? Not easy. Most people want to trust and believe in others - scam artists making a living playing the heart strings of average, trusting individuals. I'd bet you would be no different at his age.

Im pretty sure you would piss yourself in the same situations, love an internet tough guy lol

Exactly! These guys were "normal" citizens beforehand, young, confused, and let's not forget that they were themselves had doubts - so I don't think it would take much to get out of getting murdered by them if you had a chance to humanize yourself to them.

I'd also like to see everyone complaining about their deeds in a similar situation - we know ZERO about war like that - ZERO.

100% in agreement. We are so far removed from the horrible realities of WW2. It's all TV & video game reality now.

The same could be said about the people who think they would turn into Rambo if they were packing heat and a guy with an Uzi went on a shooting spree in a theater.

Love's turned to lust and blood's turned to dust in my heart.

Was just going to make a thread about it.

So naive and inept. ... What an idiot. He annoyed me
You absolute Wally!

He was 23 when he died, clearly learnt on the job and this "inept assassin" thought to have killed around 22 targets, was public enemy no:1 as far as the Germans were concerned. Hence the humiliating actions carried out on his corpse at the end, which actually did happen IRL. Among other things the film explores the issues which may have led him not to kill certain targets.

But such subtle undercurrents were clearly lost on armchair warriors like you and the OP, who are plainly just too dumb to get it.🐭

reply

Maybe that's what Op meant. In real life person behind the character was German public enemy 1 with 22 kills plus battlefield experience, yet the writer of this movie chose two show him blubbering around like a fool.

reply

As others have mentioned above, he's only 23, has no experience with shooting as well as Denmark pretty much being taken over by Nazis, having to watch his every step, i'd be pretty nervous.
