So will Disney do their own remake now?

Put Warner Brothers to shame once again? Done right, Tarzan is a character suitable for a new franchise. There's Queen La and the Leopard Men, the lost city of Opar, the Hollow Earth world of Pellucidar, etc. A lot of cool stuff. How I wish Stephen Sommers could take the helm. He'd do it and play it straight but make it fun like the first two Mummy movies.

reply

Disney doesn't own Tarzan. so no life-action remake.

reply

Since the first Tarzan book was written in 1912, the property has got to be public domain now. So any movie studio can make a Tarzan film this century, unless there are copyright issues I'm not aware of.

reply

The rights went back to Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. But apparently one story called 'Tarzan and the Golden Lion' is in the public domain.

Are we still in an era where we assuming that once Disney gets involved they're going to make something good? It seems to me that they are incredibly hit-or-miss these days. They MIGHT turn out something good or they might instead put out some useless, politicized garbage that the world is now worse for having.

reply

Well looks like Sony got the rights back.

“Reinventing.” That scares the shit out of me.

reply

If they did, Jane would be a PoC and would end up saving Tarzan repeatedly.

reply

Played by Laverne Cox.

reply

Bound to be Momoa or Hemsworth as Disney Tarzan

reply

Possibly. I think Tom Hopper would be decent too.
