I think rikkirat nailed it. I feel exactly the same way. I'm a 35-year-old female and I loved the old Bugs Bunny cartoons as a child without coming CLOSE to understanding most of the jokes (who the heck was this "Frankie" guy all the ladies were swooning over??), and now I love cartoons like Ren & Stimpy, Spongebob, Fairly Oddparents, and absolutely The Mighty B.
I mean, seriously, I can't even THINK about the "Running with the Rainbow Unicorn" ep without actually laughing aloud at the perfect way the song captures girls I went to school with who were very much like Portia. Canopy bed? Diaries and stickers? T-shirts with rainbows going across the front, including both sleeves? I mean, do kids even do that now, or is everything done via blogs on Myspace?
So perhaps Poehler and gang are capturing their own childhood, which is difficult for modern kids to relate to. I dunno what it is, but like rikkirat said, you guys just don't seem to get it.
