If it's okay for a black man to play James Bond...

... then why is not okay for a white woman to play Cleopatra?

Bond is fictional is not an valid answer. The character was established as white in the novels in the 1950's and that has been followed in the films.

Cleopatra is a historical person, but no undisputable evidence of her race exists.

That's what you think ! Cleopatra was a black woman with a big nose ! See hownos thread on this board for conclusive proof.

you are being sardonic.

reply

I have never been to Sardinia in my life !

reply

Cleopatra was Greek.

reply

Those Greeks are just like the Chinese, they want to take credit for everything !

lol

Cleopatra was Macedonian Greek, about as white as you can get. To have her portrayed as a black woman would be a ridiculous denial of history.

reply

Except Cleopatra actually WAS white.

reply

She was Macedonian Greek, descended from Alexander the Great's General Ptolemy.

reply

Bond is purely fictional

I guess you only read the title and first line of my post.

You ignored all the posts proving she is white. You are still an idiot!

You know...when people decide to watch movies, does anyone seriously think that they sit down and think 'i sincerely hope this movie is 100% accurate to history and the facts, otherwise I refuse to watch it'?

You are watching a movie. Not a documentary.

Bond being fictional is indeed a valid answer.
Is him being white essential to his character, to the point that a non-white actor can't play him?
I don't think so.
Would it make more sense to just do some other Bond type agent thing within the same universe? Yeah, sure.
Who cares though? Especially if you consider the 007 thing to be a code name and not a single character.

As for Cleopatra, I don't personally care about the specific ethnicity of the actress,
but she should look the part (whatever it is)...
Sorta like you wouldn't cast a non-black person as Nelson Mandela.
