Would be still be staying at that house? Even as a slave, he's better off there than at the camp.

I'm getting the impression that Shumel (can't spell his name) was sent back to the camp with a black eye becuase the mean solder thought he was stealing food (although we know Bruno gave it to him).

Had this not happened, I wondered if he would've been allowed to work as a slave in the house the way the Jewish Doctor was. At least he'd have food and have Bruno to keep him company (although their friendship would have to be kept a secret).
