Typos happen. Smart people actually do make typos.
I drink wine and listen to opera because I truly enjoy them, which is the same reason I like good beer or barbeque, and John Lee Hooker. The difference is that I can actually make good beer and barbeque myself, but can not ever realistically hope to make good wine, write, or perform opera, or even hope to hold a a wet match (let alone a candle) to Hooker or Clapton's skill with a guitar.
I happen to follow the view that a good wine is one that a person likes. Price and vineyard makes no difference. I do not care what others think about what I drink.
Regarding the movie..... Alan Rickman's character IS a snob. But the Californians, at the time the film refers to, were not.
Experts can be wrong. But your initial post showed a lack of understanding about opera and what was going on in the wine world covered by the film, so the word neophyte applied.
Your original post stated: "Smart people dont go around quoting famous writers."
Yes they do.
You also stated: "Old dude who listens to opera. They are snobs too."
His character truly enjoyed it so by your definition he was not a snob.
Remember his character was just some old Mexican-heritage grape grower. A man that many whites would have assumed was just a field worker, even though he actually owned a farm. The idea in the film was that a man who most of America at the time would have looked down upon as "just some wetback" was in fact a man with refined tastes and a level of cultural experience. Far from being a snob. He did not listen to opera to impress anyone. It was his relaxation.
My assertion about your lack of good taste or intelliegence was based on what you actually said in your original post.
From your post is seems that you do not understand what snobbery is.
