A brilliant show with an awful final season

I always want to recommend to people to check out Damages but then I remember the awful final season with its numerous plot holes, unfulfilled conclusion, melodrama and especially the awful acting from Ryan Phillippe, who was nowhere to the level of any actor throughout the series. I usually tell people to watch until season 4 and stop, which is so unfortunate since a show like Damages deserved a remarkable ending and instead was given a substandard final season that was almost embarrassing to watch.

I thought the finale was fantastic and well worth waiting for.
It may not have been the best season but all the pigeons finally came to roost and I enjoyed coasting in to the finish line.
And Ryan Philippe was playing a highly functioning autistic man, in case you didn't realize that... so he did a good job with that IMHO.

On my rewatch, I noticed flaws. Ryan was terribly miscast. It's kind of a slow season but it greatly picks up towards the end and has a great series finale. The final scene is chilling to the core.

I did know that about Phillippe's character, but I thought he was still horrendous in the role and so miscast. The problem is that Ryan Philippe lacks the ability to be authentic in any performance. His role in Damages is no exception.
