So what's with Jamie's friend who never shows up, and also... Charlie and Jamie were in the friends' apartment, messing around with her stuff... does anyone know (or care) where this friend is supposed to be? It leaves such an empty hole in the plot, not knowing why the friend is simply nowhere to be found.

I agree 100%. It was a bit strange and left a WTF? kind of wondering in my mind. I did like the film, but the whole issue with the missing friend (a pretty long trip from Atlanta to NYC without any communication/contact/plans with the girlfriend...) was weird.
