Ellen Page to portray Stacie

I just read today that Juno star Ellen Page is going to play Stacie in a feature film based on this documentary. Regardless who plays Stacie in the film I am glad to hear that a film is in the works.

I live in Ocean County and I was at all the Freeholder meetings. I am in several of the crowd scenes holding a "Have Compassion. Don't let Laurel die like this" sign.

My biggest gripe with the documentary is one that I hope/pray is not repeated in the feature film. I guess it didn't fit the story arc the director wanted but I wish she had touched on the fact that that the Freeholders did not give Laurel as much as they could have. They gave her only as little as they had to. They could have given her every benefit available to heterosexual couples, for example, health insurance for Stacie, among many other things. I guess they would say Laurel wasn't asking for more than the pension, and that's true. Still, they could have gone above and beyond what she asked for. (Well, not bloody well likely, considering the current Board, but still...)

Their resolution giving her the pension benefits was so narrowly focused I say it wasn't written with a pen, it was written with a scapel.
