That's a Battleship?

Looks more like a transport ship with WW ll era flak guns. Besides all the battleships have been mothballed. Figures they couldn't even get the ship type right with such crummy writers

What are they doing? Why do they come here?
Some kind of instinct, memory, what they used to do.

Your are correct. It was a WW II Liberty Ship, a cargo ship that did have some light guns for self-protection but was no battleship. Here is what Wikipedia had to say:

The producers secured a restored museum Liberty ship docked in Los Angeles and shot mostly at night after museum patrons had left. Luckily the ship made a trip to a WWII San Diego event, affording the producers to get "at sea" footage for free. All the guns were plastic models, so all the muzzle flashes and sound effects were laid in later.

yeah, I saw that in the notes. BTW, I was the one who put the goof in about this too.

Several 'goofs' in this thread.

1. No, not all battleships are mothballed. Iowa (BB-61) became a museum in 2012, New Jersey (BB-62) became a museum in 2001, Missouri (BB-63) became a museum in 1998, and Wisconsin (BB-64) became a museum in 2009.

2. The Los Angeles 'Liberty' ship is in fact the S.S. Lane Victory, a 'Victory' ship. She is still at San Pedro, open for tours, and is equipped with examples of 5-inch, 40MM and 20MM guns.

Can't see the forest for the trees. Also some battleships were scrapped or used as targets & sunk, like in the Bikini nuke tests. The salient point is that there are no battleships in commission these days anywhere. A museum ship is not active duty. Ironically the ship they did use in this flick was a museum ship too.

Who can't see the forest for the trees? I'm pointing out blatant factual errors in the thread by both you and the other poster. As a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and a current employee of USS IOWA, I am aware of the fate of our battleships. No one said or suggested there were any in commission, what is relevant about the Bikini tests, or the scrapping of ships? And the use of a museum ship is 'ironic'? How's that work? And the 'plastic guns' the other poster mentions, what are those? Because they sure as hell aren't the real guns on the Lane Victory...

The points of my thread were:
1) That not only was that ship not a battleship, it wasn't even a warship
2) There are no battleships in the fleet these days
Both are true. This is not a treatise on naval history nor am I a historian

If they had a destroyer for a ship and called it a cruiser or a frigate, I'd say that was a minor mistake,. But to call a transport a battleship is a major error that helps make the film cheap. There was no reason in the plot to call it a battleship or even a destroyer. If they just said it was some sort of auxiliary naval ship, it wouldn't have hurt their lame story in the least

Really? Huh. Go figure...

Here's a hint for you if you watch NCIS: Los Angeles. Stop. You won't like episode #10 just filmed on USS Iowa. She stands in for the fictional aircraft carrier USS Van Buren.

Must be tough to land a jet on the Iowa. Why not use the Intrepid in NYC as a stand in instead? Face it, this movie sucked balls so bad that it isn't worth commenting on for any of us.

Well, NCIS:LA is based and filmed in.....LA (as is NCIS). Hell, there's USS Midway in San Diego, but they came to San Pedro for the Iowa. Mostly interior shots, but it was funny to see some small corners of weather deck covered in painted roofing paper, with aircraft tiedowns airbrushed on it...
