Episode 5 The Scene with Ming, her father, and Karl

SPOILERS

So there's something I don't quite understand . . . Okay, now Ming is RH-sensitive and can't have babies with Chen. But why did her father suggest Karl and Ming make a baby - "There's no risk!"? Obviously, I know he wasn't suggesting that Karl sleep with her (little did he know), but whaaat?

In Western culture, there's a stigma associated with incest, of course. And I know it's slightly more acceptable in Chinese culture to have a relationship with your cousin (for those of the "old world" - source: I'm mostly Chinese), but I would assume even her traditional father who puts so much emphasis on Ming being a WESTERN doctor wouldn't want that.

So to reiterate, whaaaat?
