Just watch Akira Kurosawa's Ran instead

It also has a strong anti-war, "war poisons everything" message, but is in all respects a much superior movie. (and is, in my opinion, one of the greatest films ever made.)
Really the only good thing about Warlords was that the cinematography was pretty nice, otherwise it was a pretty lackluster hollywood-action film trying to sound like it's "historical."

I love Kurosawa and I love RAN...but you're kinda comparing apples and watermelon. This movie is beautifully shot, GREAT cinematography (not pretty nice), a cast of thousands and a very good plot. A different movie than RAN and I like this movie very much. It is not a Hollywood movie! It was made in China and released as The Blood Brothers in 2007.

I don`t agree with orbinatorrr, but i agree with tstraton. I think it is very good film. I saw over 2 years ago in February, so i think i will rewatch it next year.

yes, i know it was made in China, i meant that it feels like a Hollywood movie, and that's what i disliked about it. There's so much great Asian cinema that I find it odd when people (not necessarily yourself) defend it as a "chinese" movie. I don't want China to follow Hollywood's example of how movies are supposed to be made! This just felt like an action movie, nothing more.

personally i loved the style of this movie which is that it did not suck...american movies on the other hand do suck so u cant compare them....felt like an action movie huh??? what??? where to begin uff

reply

Not to be an *beep* but if you throw out blanket statements like "american movies on the other hand do suck" then I'm just going to assume that you don't really know enough about film to accurately critique it. I would recommend that you check out more cinema from different cultures. I'm no master when it comes to film, but even as a non-asian, non-american, I've seen enough films from both cultural groups to appreciate both, and to at least realize that in the greater view of film, this is a very very mediocre movie.
And what part of it didn't feel like an action film? The script and acting was never tight enough to really convey any emotion, and the historical references were scattered at best, so instead the movie centered itself around unnecessarily long battle sequences.

I agree that it was a Chinese film with a Hollywood feel to it (E.G. Huge salaries for Jet Li and Andy Lau), but it was any thing but lacklustre IMO and Jet Li did demonstrate he has acting chops. On the other hand, I was disappointed in the Liansheng thread which was seriously underdeveloped and deserved more onscreen time.
