My best Carter moment

I was about two weeks away from retiring from Barnes & Noble (I went back to school). He came to my store in Atlanta to sign his latest "Christian" book. It was about three months after his Nobel "Peace" Prize political statement he was rather full of himself (for a guy that is one of the worst presidents in US History). When the signing was over he stood with his Secret Service, his publisher and he came over to the staff. The Manager of the store gushed over him with the usual "We are honored to have you..." he then turned to the next employee and received much of the same. Obviously loving the attention he finally made his way to me expecting the usual prattle and admiration for the guy who lost Iran. I looked him in the eye and said:
"I respect your right to say and believe what you want, but if you had any dignity or respect for the office and this nation, you would not have excepted the Nobel."
I will never forget the look on all the faces - How dare I speak up against the mighty one! Oh, it was so worth it!
Hence to say - my retirement came early! So much for Freedom of Speech and Petition!

Firing you would have been freedom of expression... had this really happened.

Make since, to fire someone for not kissing someone's ass. Espeacially, Carters.

I really don't think Carter ever "excepted" his Nobel Peace Prize. In fact, he did the exact opposite, and **accepted** it.

I'd berate you more, EXCEPT that I am quite sure that this incident never happened anyway. So I might as well ACCEPT it and let you continue to fantasize about having the balls to stand up for what is moral and right in the face of popular discontent (as Jimmy Carter has done pretty much every day of his political life), when in reality you anonymously post bland rehashes of urban legends that have already been attributed to other people.

Ciao!

You got me on the grammar but ...that is about it. Happened, it was cool. Didn't make news or anything and nothing happened except (is that correct) I left work early.
Your arrogance though! Wow, need to work on that! And if I have become some urban legend then so be it. Where have you heard this particular stroy before? Bush has stood in the face of popular discontent so...big deal.
You, except for the grammar correction (did I use it right again), are wrong and the best part is that you think you have it so right. Sad.
Tone down your arrogance - it does you no good!

When did Carter LOSE Iran? Did we ever have it? I don't recall a war. Did I miss it?

Now, it may be debatable if GW has WON Iraq or not, but we have LOST over 3,000 American lives in this war.

The Shah was our buddy and Iran a friendly ME outpost for the US and her oil interests. The friendly gov't was toppled and one anti-antithetical to our interests came into power. In those terms, we indeed lost our foothold, influence, strongman, etc. in Iran.

The concept of "losing" a friendly country has been around (and been a political football) at least since the fall of China to the communists in late 1949.

The Iranian Revolution did occur during Carter's watch, though it takes more than that to apportion blame. Perhaps it was inevitable, or due to a predecessor's errors, or occurred through a fault of Carter policy, or just maybe took place due to factors beyond American control. But on the Internet most people prefer to make bald unsupported and little informed assertions. Facts and careful analysis apparently aren't interesting or loud or sexy enough.

reply

Of course not - I didn't want to. My manager gave me a dirty look and I walked away - that simple. I had expected his Secret Service detail to say something but they shruged and did nothing - not very dramatic.
Did it really happen - yep. Since I spoke - it is Freedom of Speech (political) - freedom of expresison is a made up device of the Supreme Court
