My best Carter moment
I was about two weeks away from retiring from Barnes & Noble (I went back to school). He came to my store in Atlanta to sign his latest "Christian" book. It was about three months after his Nobel "Peace" Prize political statement he was rather full of himself (for a guy that is one of the worst presidents in US History). When the signing was over he stood with his Secret Service, his publisher and he came over to the staff. The Manager of the store gushed over him with the usual "We are honored to have you..." he then turned to the next employee and received much of the same. Obviously loving the attention he finally made his way to me expecting the usual prattle and admiration for the guy who lost Iran. I looked him in the eye and said:
"I respect your right to say and believe what you want, but if you had any dignity or respect for the office and this nation, you would not have excepted the Nobel."
I will never forget the look on all the faces - How dare I speak up against the mighty one! Oh, it was so worth it!
Hence to say - my retirement came early! So much for Freedom of Speech and Petition!
