Err...if you helped hijack the truck it means you are an accomplice. Which means you go to prison instead of getting a "reward".
Unless the story suggests that he lied to everybody and pretended to be the victim which is still unbelievable. That would be one HUGE cover up as to why he was in the middle of it all.
