Sequential bills ***SPOILER ***

What really blew a hole in this story for me right from the beginning is the idea that someone could steal shrink-wrapped, bar-coded, sequential bricks of hundred-dollar bills from the Federal Reserve and hope to spend that money. It would take hard-core criminal money-laundering. These guys obviously don’t have the contacts to make that happen. And they can’t exactly leave the country without arousing suspicion.

I just don’t see how it would work. Which is fine- they’re not supposed to be criminal masterminds. But you do think that given their line of work they would know that the non-sequential currency transports were the more dangerous ones- because those are the ones criminals can spend without being traced.

that's not really a plot hole as far as the movie goes,

there are stupid criminals that don't think things through all the time.
that's why a lot of them get caught.

Yea... I mean...you think they don't know that. The point is that they weren't going to spend that money for a long time....they were simply hiding it. No one said it wasn't going to be laundered at any specific time. You just have to assume that eventually it will be.

That and I had a very hard time empathizing with the lead actor. He was terrible!

Give me a couple of bricks of those (how much is in a brick anyway?)and I'm pretty sure I could get away with it. The trick would be not to go crazy and start buying cars and stuff with cash where you would need thousands of dollars. Grab one from each end and 3 from random spots in the middle and you've got $500.00 that no one would look at twice once they confirmed it was not counterfeit.

If I have to read the book to help explain the movie that tells me the movie failed

Is it ok to buy a pink Cadillac if it's a wedding gift under my mother's name?

reply

I assumed Matt Dillon knew a money launderer.
