I don't get this?

It's just random colors that express nothing. She's only 4. That's the answer. Making paintings like that requires NO talent. I mean she's only 4. It's hardly impressionism. She's just throwing paints on the board. My friend paints... maybe I should get hers appraised and then tell her to sell them. They're better than the 4 year olds and my friend actually knows what's going on.

From what I've deciphered on this board, the film is about the girl's parents exploiting her and giving her credit for paintings she didn't do.

So as crappy as the paintings are she didn't even paint them.

But I could be wrong.

"I've been working on my secret project"
"Oh, you mean your helmet that looks like your hair?"

I agree the parents are exploiting her in a terrible way...but i think the paintings are really good.

How are the paintings good though? They're just random colors splattered on paper. She's not conveying anything with her art if she's 4. It doesn't convey anything if she's 40. I don't get the obsession with this kind of art. I've been doing paintings like that since I was 4 and I haven't gotten any recognition. It's just colors. There's more controversy on whether she did it or not. The paintings AREN'T good. They're just average at best.

I just saw this movie tonight...I'm in art school and everyone loves the abstract paintings that have so much meaning and concept...I'm being sarcastic! I don't believe Marla did any of the early paintings, I think her father or the gallery owner had something to do with finishing them, and people bought into the hype and paid thousands of dollars for average paintings that look like my palettes when I'm painting.
