MGM Needs to Be Sued

I bet if Pat's daughter wanted to, she could sue MGM i a civil court. Seriously, even though it's way too late, I want to see them pay for what they did.

I love cats.

If it's way too late, as you admit, how could her daughter sue? And who would she sue? All the players in this story are now dead. MGM isn't even a studio anymore. And what would her daughter sue for? She would have to prove that her mother's rape, which occurred before she was born, affected her in some way that warrants payment.

It is unfortunate what happened to Patricia Douglas, but suing a studio that really doesn't exist anymore makes no sense.

I think it iwould be about vindication, rather than money.

How would there be any vindication? Vindication is typically achieved when the perpetrator is held responsible. The people who wronged Patricia are now dead. Any money the daughter won wouldn't be from those people, it would be from Ted Turner's pocket. The only thing he's guilty of is colorizing movies and buying a studio where lots of shady doings happened.

reply

It would be about vindication, because MGM should be made to publicly admit that these things happened and that they where wrong to lie and cover it up.

If your great-grandfather had committed a bank robbery, should you be arrested for his crime? Should the grandchildren of Nazis be arrested for war crimes? Should the children of murderers be sent off to jail instead of their parents? What if the Zodiac Killer was ide

Crime isn't hereditary. Yes, it's a little different for a corporation, but it's still punishing the wrong people. People should be punished for crimes they commit, not crimes their predecessors committed.

Why not sue the grandchildren of the reporters, lawyers, and judges that called her a floozy and let her rapist get away with it? It's too late for Patricia and her daughter. Justice didn't get served, and it never will. Instead, we should focus on implementing a system that doesn't let this continue to happen, as it still continues to happen every day. There are modern-day laws that protect companies (and therefore their employees) that rape other employees. The military constantly discharges and vilifies rape victims while allowing rapists to remain within the ranks. Police refuse to process rape kits, "lose" evidence, and even turn rape victims away to avoid having to investigate and prosecute a rape case (because they're not very profitable). Our culture continually tells people that women are as worthy as their bodies, and we have a rape culture that protects assailants and shames victims, both male and female.

Doing something about all those things is going to be way more helpful than suing MGM for an old crime.
