not saying you're not smart if you don't like it, but...

literally every person i know who enjoys this show is, in fact, quite intelligent. i'm not going to use words like "poignant" or "juxtaposition" to describe this show or what T&E do. that's hipster nonsense. but i will say that some people "get it", and those that i know are pretty damn smart. and i've met plenty of smart people who don't "get it". but i've never met a fan who is stupid, so that must count for something.

There are just too many angles to start attacking this post from.

I'm out.

No.

No, I'm out.

Intelligence is not a prerequisite for enjoying this show. The prerequisite is imbibing THC at some point in the previous 3 months.

The list of guest stars reads like a list of pot legalization celebrities.

Yes, a person with an high IQ who hates this show and gave it the rare 1 of 10 rating.

""poignant" or "juxtaposition" to describe this show or what T&E do. that's hipster nonsense."

using words slightly different from everyday vocabulary is hipster? I guess college professors must be hipsters as well.

Well, I happen to be a Network Engineer/Computer Technician with a bachelor's degree and an IQ of 154. I just watched the entire series and I really enjoyed it. I found myself laughing at most of the skits.
I think maybe you should have shown your brother some of the skits like: The MIDI Organizer, The Internet on a CD ad, or the music video to "Mini Van Highway." Seeing as he's a comp sci major I'm sure he'd really appreciate the humor in those. I mean, I know I'm no sevant like your brother. What, with his 2 more years in college and whopping 6 more IQ points score. But, I'm sure he'll "get it."

As an individual with a well-above average IQ, I see absolutely nothing funny about this show. It's low-brow toilet humor, and comparable to watching two mentaly retarded four year olds on LSD. Most of my friends are likewise, very intelligent people, and sometimes we wait a second to change the channel so we can make fun of what bottom-feeding a__holes these two are. Personally, you'd have to be close to 70 on the IQ scale to really get this type of 'humor', otherwise you just think to yourself "what the f_ck is this sh_t?". Comedy doesn't require clever set-ups with even funnier punchlines, but what it does require is something T&EASGJ! is clearly missing- purpose. But hey- if you like two grown men making fart noises while dressed in drag, then this is the show for your.

In my view, 'Tim and Eric' humor is best appreciated by someone with a deeper understanding of the 'language' of comedy; the basic framework, overarching comedic motifs, etc. I imagine that this particular type of 'intelligence' can be learned to a certain degree, but the interest has to be there initially. Also, while I'm not suggesting there is a 'good' sense of humor and a 'bad' sense of humor, there is undoubtedly a more 'developed' sense of humor. Applying this to Tim and Eric specifically; think of a joke (or funny idea) as a journey from point A to B. The journey is very direct and obvious in the case of a joke on your average sitcom. The laughs are 'easy', if you will, so they appeal to a much broader demographic. On Awesome Show, the path from A to B APPEARS to be absurdly simple. Where people get lost is in the subtext, which is the degradation and defiance of the elements that are at the core of mainstream comedy. It isn't anti-comedy (except for when it is) but rather a joke about a joke. Within this framework, Tim and Eric weave their many other influences/interests; pop culture, advertising, bad televison programs, music, etc. Personally, I see these superficial themes as more of a vehicle or jumping-off point for the 'real' comedy.

On a personal note, I didn't fall in love with the comedy of Tim and Eric after the first sketch, or the second one...I developed a taste for it over time as I began to subconsciously recognize certain comedic motifs and references in their work. As an aside, I read a report on a study that said people with very well-defined musical taste could 'learn' to appreciate genres they previously disliked. Something about your brain learning to recognize the patterns and structures (eg. chord progressions) common to a particular genre, be it country, classical, metal, etc. In essence, if you don't like classical music it may just be because your brain doesn't yet recognize the patterns and primal elements that form the language of that genre.

Think most of you are looking way way way way too deep into this POS; Because (like one skit) dressed like guidos on the beach with cocktail glasses full of shrimp singing dumb songs to electronic keyboard tones is just PURE GENIUS!!!!

Nothing funny about this show, and enough with "YOU JUST DON'T GET IT" This show needs to be removed from [as] already.

Only sh*t that I find funny about these guys is "Tom goes to the Mayor"

Dude, that skit which you mentioned, is SUPPOSED to be parodizing those kind of shows, or even parodizing the parodies. Tim And Eric like it when they try to make something as typical as possible, because it adds comedic effect.

Go back to South Park and Family Guy, you bozo!

This post doesn't make any sense.

Some People who have low IQs and some people who have high IQs enjoy certain silly, absurd comedies.

Some people with low IQs and some with high IQs don't enjoy certain silly, absurd comedies.

What numerical score someone got on some IQ test doesn't determine whether they'll like something or not. Smart people like stupid things and sometimes stupid people like more refined, thought-provoking fare.

reply

Correct. We each have our own sense of humor and comparing anything else about us is total BS. I know which of my friends would love it and who would hate it. And I still know others that would appreciate it for what it is, even if it's not their thing....they know friends to recommend it to.

I agree I happen to have a very low IQ and failed the Mavis Beacon: Type at Your Own Pace Dummy- course.

Sometimes I find it funny just to see bright lights and people moving from left to right or right to left. And for these reasons I'd like to nominate this show.

reply

This may be the best description of T&E's style of comedy I've ever read.

reply

What in the holy hell does ones IQ have to do with enjoying this show? Jesus Christ, you must think you are something special. I'm not some moron, and I love Tim & Eric.

Everyone against the show is mad because fans tell them they don't get it. A bunch of bickering over a 10 minute show on adult swim.

reply

dont worry they wont be intellegent for long if they keep watching, the only worse thing is the movie they made... but i will watch the show while stoned.

^ Exactly!

THC is a prerequisite.

reply

It certainly isn't a *perquisite, but things that are funny are generally more funny when you've got THC in your body.

Doesn't say anything about this show, really.

reply

I think you're completely wrong, but everyone I know who likes the show are all people I'd consider intelligent.

Never met a "stupid" person that likes this show.

That doesn't really mean anything, though.
