Is that real marijuana they're smoking in this movie?

Initially I thought that there was no way it was real marijuana since movie studios would not want to get in trouble with potential visits from law enforcement agencies. But then I thought that maybe no one in the crew had any problem with this vegetable so they agreed not to tell. If is this the case, we will never know but, at the same time, no one can assert that it is not real marijuana. I don't know if the actors, producers or other people involved in the making of the movie has commented on this.

You any idea how many takes of each shot of smoking the actors would have to do? Any idea how much money is spent every day that filming goes on? You think there's even the slightest chance that anyone involved, actors included, would allow real weed to be smoked on set? I seriously doubt it, personally.

First of all, James Franco doesn't smoke pot, take drugs or drink at all in real life. So no, he's not smoking real pot in the movie.
The other thing to consider is that they are acting and have specific lines to say. There might be some funny lines come out of it if they were really getting high but there is a script to follow, just because it's about pot smoking doesn't mean anyone needs to get high to act that way.
I seriously doubt anyone would he too concerned with law enforcement showing up however. These are closed sets and they're not going to get a warrant and smash down the door because they suspect someone is smoking a doob.

The article states that whilst Franco doesn't smoke weed, he has in the past but just feels there's no necessity for him to smoke it. Rogen admits to sometimes being high whilst acting/directing and Franco even states that there's no decline in Seth's quality of work post-spliff. To think that you can't act bevause you've smoked some weed is silly. I mean imagine how many people have to "act" sober in front of police/parents every day and night because they're actually super blazed.
Being high on weed is nowhere near as noticeable as being drunk.

My friend was his personal trainer while he prepared for 127 hrs. He smoked with him many a times. Believe it or not.

Doubtful it was real marijuana. That would cause so much trouble.

And to those above insisting that James Franco doesn't smoke pot because he said he didn't smoke pot...yeah right. Sorry I don't care what he says, the guy smokes pot.

I'm worried that my guardian angel is a crack head...

I actually replied to this like a month ago but apparently it didn't actually post it, must've closed my phone browser too soon.
I see no reason why Franco would lie about smoking though? It's not like people don't know he's smoked in the past, he hasn't gained respect from any particular group by not smoking it either because he still supports people's right to smoke. So again, why would he need to lie about smoking it?

Actually there are quite a few movies where the actors used real drugs. Can't name more than one off the top of my head, but in Easy Rider (1969) both Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper got really wasted . Both on LSD , Weed and Cocaine . From what I heard the director suggested it to get the most realistic performance out of the actors.

Cocaine used to routinely be part of a film's budget, however it was disguised, because of how many people in the industry did it. The Blues Brothers is a famous case of it. It's not too outlandish to think some ganja may have been smoked in a scene or two, and it was honestly probably all fake, but we'll never know for sure.

LOL Do they really kill people in movies where there's a murder? Do they really copulate in movies with sex scenes?
