Question about Fred's father (spoiler)

Late audience members prevented me from reading the subtitles when Fred was at the shooting range early in the movie, and there was a conversation about her father. Was there any explanation of why she and her father were estranged? Or why she stopped shooting competitively? (Then, or at any point in the movie?) Thanks.
