Seagal in 'Fat Elvis' period?

I haven't seen Urban Justice yet and it's encouraging that there are a few good comments apart from the usual fanboi stuff (you could wheel him out in his coffin and some of them would say the action was the best ever!). But perhaps people live in eternal hope that 'this one' finally will be the start of his return from a sad decline in recent years.

Leading up to this film, it seemed that Seagal was definitely in his 'Fat Elvis' period. I don't know what was going on in his personal life but he simply didn't give a stuff. He'd lost it. His movies had become Elvis movies...just pump 'em out for the cash. Don't worry about the script, the acting, the production values, his fan's expectations. Don't worry about staying in shape for the action sequences, just wear a girdle and fake it. It looked like he just turned up on the day, went through the motions, left the set as early as poss, and left the blanks for the director and stuntmen to fill in.

Like Elvis he was still capable of the odd moment of brilliance but was basically a parody of what he once was, and he couldn't even seem to see it or, if he did, even sadder, he simply didn't care.

Jake: She says he's pretty.
Joey: Yeah, well, you make him ugly.

I think Steve's fans will be pleasantly surprised with this one. He still doesn't move around much anymore during his fights, but there's a lot of bone-crunching action and some intense shootouts. I didn't expect much, but ended up enjoying the hell out of it.

I agree with the original poster. I mean I want to believe Seagal is back, really I do, but i've been burnt before and I am being careful this time. I will rent it when it's released.

i didn´t like this movie. it was boring to me and too much slow motion when the bad guys gets killed... and seagal can´t move anymore

I love this.He looks so menacing when they slowed it down at the end with him walking away. I knew I'd like it, it's a Seagal movie. No complaints here.

I agree 100%. I liked Seagal in his early movies, but over the years he has declined, and HE HAS GOTTEN FAT! He has become a parody of himself in recent years and his forays into "pretended wisdom" have been laughable. How can men be paid such huge amounts of money for doing so little?

The fights are worse then ever, when he takes on the 4 white guys i nearly pissed myself,as if all 4 would not go for him at once, hes to fat and slow now,it looked crap.

Simon,(Steven)obviously knows Martial Arts, right, ergo, he'd have no problem taking care of these racists pigs. H'd do it with one hand tied behind his back kiddo. There were just racist loud-mouthed oafs who tried it on with the wrong man.
