What A Waste

I have no idea what source material they were using, but it was butchered in the screenwriting process. Just watching the movie, I'm cutting lines out of the script in my mind.
'What are you doing here?' 'We're here for you, Mr. Doucet'.

What a waste of such a wonderful cast. And what a waste of the 35 they shot it on.

Tommy Lee Jones is not brilliant - he's doing his best under the circumstances, and going through the motions.

The Doucet character, the Buddy Guy character, and that bodyguard character all deliver awful awful performances.

And this French director couldn't direct his way out of a shoe box.
What a waste.

Bertrand Tavernier has directed some excellent movies. What a ridiculous comment.

It's based on a book. I haven't read the book, but is on my list. Over all I though the movie was good and had my attention right to the end. It was a bit muddeled at the end, but that's what a good movie does.

If want simple to fallow mindless enteraintment, I suggest you watch E!

Not sure what movie you were watching but Doucet was done quit well. The bodyguard barely had any lines so why even waste time on him? And he's Buddy F'n Guy. He's there cause he can play guitar, he's not an actor. He adds color to the film by just being there.

You going to do something or just stand there and bleed?

reply

I wish the hooker story-line was more fully developed. However, I did enjoy the film.

reply

Yeah Tavernier will never satisfy those of you who need to be told what is happening so you don't have to use your own brain.

reply

yes of course if we don't like the movie, we are to blame. what a strange point of view. it was one of the worst movies i ever saw. after 90 minutes i looked at my watch and there were only 20 minutes over. If you feel sleepless. this movie really helps. otherwise leave it in the dvd shelf. forever.

reply

Or... This film > your intellectual capability

Pretty simple.

reply

I agree with this remark. The thing is, during the movie, I was thinking, "here we have everything, all the elements, it CAN be a super movie." But this is like a sauce that never takes, and does not have the taste it was supposed to have. Tavernier missed his sauce.

reply

It wasn't terrible, but a lot of the acting was. I finally decided Tommy Lee was playing Tommy Lee, when it usually comes so natural to him.

reply

The movie was aesthetically pleasing but that was about it. All style and no substance. It was decent to watch once, but the story was instantly forgettable.

A slow paced, drawn out, dull sleeper with no direction. I yawned and yawned though the whole boring story. Tommy Lees tired and drained voice narrated throughout the film, sounding as uninspired as the films plot was.

A snore-fest to be avoided, unless of course you have a bout of insomnia. In that case I would highly recommend this film as an excellent cure.

My God !! It's full of stars....

The bad acting and blatant goofs such as Levon Helm (who can sing, but can't act his way out of a paper bag) saying Calvary instead of Cavalry (TWICE), and then TL repeating the faux pas a bit later was too much for my discerning ear. And the eye twitch when the forensics expert touched her face was just too much. Little things like that can ruin a good script in short order!

reply

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I have read the books. The characters usually have had religious upbringings - are you sure they didn't actually mean 'Calvary' instead of 'cavalry'?

reply

well ive seen it as both Calvary and Cavalry...Ive seen and heard Calvary more though.

the worst acting ive ever seen in my life I think, was the little girl who played Alafair. I even started a topic on here about her. Adorable girl, but she was so horrible, she even looked at the camera...I have no idea why they let her in the cast.

reply

That is because cavalry and calvary are both words but they are not interchangeable.

One means soldiers, usually on horseback.

The other is the hill where Jesus was crucified.

So, did you like it?
