Who should be Robicheaux

Loved Heaven's Prisoners and rather enjoyed this. Hoping they make more but I'd love to see an actor settle into the role.
Think Baldwin should come back? Is Jones too old to carry on?

Baldwin was a disaster; he doesn't have the physical presence. And TLJ is actually some years younger than Robicheaux.

I don't think there will be more films, because there aren't any actors who could start where Robicheaux started and go on into his early seventies. Unless maybe Benjamin Button wants to have a go. :)

Someone I thought of last night, who could fit the part well, would be David Morse. Tommy Lee Jones did a great job as far as attitude is concerned, but he doesn't have the physical bulk and aggression. I seem to remember from the books that Robicheaux is 6'4" which is the same as Morse, and I'm sure Morse could develop a mean look to go with it.

I think David Morse is a brilliant idea. I never would've thought of that but I really think he'd be tremendous in the role. He's quite underrated and definitely has the intelligence, quiet intensity, and physical stature for the role. Not to mention the right capacity for a sort of menacing ferocity Robichaux demonstrates at times.

I always thought Joe Don Baker would be great although I have a feeling he's too old now. He played Buford Pusser in Walking Tall back in the 70's.

How about Justin Timberlake?

or even gene hackman

no one can top TLJ after this performance, but if they want to film all the DR books - and i wish they would - then perhaps Tom Berenger or Billy Bob Thornton comes to mind. Tevernier should be the director...pure class. This movie has helped me visualise Iberia as I read the JLB's lyrical novels. Delroy Lindo for Batist and Goodman for Clete (incidentally Goodman is from Louisiana)

I always, always wanted to see Fred Ward in the role too, but I guess he's a bit old for it now. Too bad.

reply

Fred Ward? Not bad, but he never reached the heights required.

IMHO, Tommy Lee Jones made a good Dave R. I lamented the decision to not include Clete Purcell, but hey, I guess there's a reason I'm posting *beep* on IMDb and Tavernier and Jones are out there making movies.

I would like to see Purcell included in the next outing, though, because I hope there will be a second one. TOM BERENGER should play Purcell, I think he fits the bill here.

Tommy Lee Jones and Tom Berenger? The screen would explode with badassity. Also, Berenger is not such a huge star anymore, so Jones would agree to it.

I've thought about Nick Nolte in the past, but would the Nick agree to play second fiddle here - even though he gets to play a tough dude with a lust for cocaine and booze (his characters often share this common trait)?

reply

Tommy Lee Jones for Robicheaux. Mickey Rourke for Clete Purcell.

I have always thought of John Goodman for the role of Clete, and think its a shame he played the wrong role in this one. John has the size, the strength, and the ability to portray Clete. Clete is huge, red, sweaty and loud, not a role for Berenger or Nolte. Goodman is already all of these and can definitely play the smart aleck, badass, rageaholic Clete. Brian Dennehy could have done it years ago, can't think of anybody else.

Fred Ward has always been my choice, too.

Billy Bob Thornton is a GREAT Idea!!!!
I would love to have it First. This guy is one of the greatest actor of his generation.
