An enjoyable Southern Gothic

I enjoyed ITEM from start to finish. Not that it couldn't have been improved in a few areas, but overall what I was expecting. I think two important factors determine how people view the movie. 1. JLB fans probably followed the plot better than those who are unfamiliar with the book specifically and the series in general. They are able to fill in the gaps in the plot either consciously or unconsciously which allows the film to flow smoother. 2. People from the south also probably could identify with some of the atmosphere of the movie. I grew up in a small southern town in Alabama and some of the scenes were very realistic. It gave the movie an authenticity that was appealling. Take the movie for what it is, all movies have their issues, for the fan we have to decide to either enjoy it or dwell on the shortcomings.

Insert catchy quote here.

I really enjoyed the movie better then the book which is very rare for me because I usually find alot of things wrong with the movie after watching it but not this time. I came out of the reading the book with some disappointments because I felt Dave dwelled on the pass to much but in the movie he kept with the investagation without being boring.I don't mind when a characther talks abouut his pass but not over do it if you know what I mean. Plus Dave got into to many fights in the book but in the movie they toned it down a bit to a point that I enjoyed it. I also see where your coming from. The book wasn't a complete disaster.

I watched the movie because I was interested in the location. I found a lot of the settings quite interesting to look at and to me, as you say, authentic, though I'm not from the south. Good to know the mood was often realistic as well.

Southern states of the USA have always had a fascination to me. That was the main reason I watched this movie. I had no idea who is JLB, I have not read any of his books, nor am I planning to read any. The southern swamp lands make for an interesting location but, overall, I found it hard to follow the movie. And what was the point of having this dead general in the movie? He was not related to anything else what was going on.
