Commercial Success?

Hey Doug. Props on the movie!

I was just wondering if you had got your money back yet and how commercially successful the movie had been world-wide...

reply

Thanks mate.

Success for us was just getting the film finished, and to get distribution for it. So getting it released in the US, Aus/NZ, UK/Eire (and soon Germany and South Africa, hopefully) is fine for us :)

Unless you make a Blair Witch, Primer, Open Water or Paranormal Activity, your first film is more like a calling card to prove what you can do. Then you go on to make a budgeted film (with private funding). With that bigger budget you'd attract bigger actors, higher production values etc, which will mean more sales agent/distributor interest and a theatrical run. That's the aim, anyway.

As far as $$ go, don't really want to discuss that on an open forum, and to be honest, we don't really know yet, as we only get account updates every 6 months or so from distributors.

Cheers, Doug.

No worries. Thanks for the response!

I have made my own no-budget movie and doubt it will get distribution cos it's not very marketable so well done on getting it out there!

I'm planning to make a comedy/horror next

reply

I don't think this is the movie you want to show people if you want to be seen as a talented film-maker.
