I agree. I'm 54 and knew I was "different" as a small child. I also quickly learned I had to lie and act "normal" to survive until I was old and big enough to begin to be the person I am.
Children should be accepted and loved by their parents regardless of their perceived or actual sexual orientation. Luckily there are more and more parents who do stand up for their kids and demand schools, clubs, and other organizations do the same. Unfortunately, though, most still reinforce gender roles and shame their kids (or beat them) into conforming.
Much to my amazement and pleasure the movie I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry had a sub-plot with the nelly little boy of the firefighter father who was sort of clueless but stood by his son regardless. I don't know how I even ended up seeing the movie since Adam Sandler isn't normally in flicks I want to see.
