Zooey Deschanel......Bad acting

Or was that on purpose?

Why is it that in every scene she was in she had to STARE blankly at the camera as if suddenly stunned?

She's not a patch on her sister Emily who I regard as a fine actress, albeit tied to a TV role but Emily is fantastic.

I'd like anyone else's thoughts on this...

I definitely agree. Actually, she seems like that to me in a lot of things I've seen her in.

I don't know if it was just bad acting, or the directors told her to do it like that...

There are times when her acting is just so painful... like in the first episode when she says "YOU'RE OUT OF YOUR TINY MINDS!", or when The Mystic Man is being killed by Azkadellia, and Zooey... just stands there like a bump on a log, with no emotion on her face whatsoever.

Then there are times where I feel her acting is generally believable, like at the end of the second episode when she learned about her sister being possessed by the witch because she broke their protective bond by letting go of her hand and running away. Her tears were mostly believable (in my opinion anyway).

So honestly, I haven't a clue. She's a mixed bag; sometimes she's good, sometimes she's just laughably bad.

Definitely not bad acting! She just has a different style of acting. That's all.

No, she's a fine actor and there were plenty of scenes in Tin Man alone that show this but I do understand where the OP is coming from.

Some of the dialogue in this production was corny as hell which made it seem like some of her acting was bad. I honestly couldn't see any actor delivering some of the embarrassingly bad lines believably. She was also clearly directed to have that incredulous look on her face so often, probably as an excuse to show off her gorgeous eyes.

Her performance in Tin Man is very similar to her performance in The Happening. She was given some really corny lines and directed to have have a stupified look on her face most of the time in both roles. I think both Tin Man and The Happening definitely had some intentional irony in them which was the reason for the corniness.

Her performance was forgettable.
