Fly
What is the meaning of the fly? It is everywhere in the german part of the movie, and its absence is notice by Rudi in Japan.
shareA guess it's a symbol for the transience & impermanence of life. In Germany Trudi quotes a poem about the fly w/only one day to live. In Japan, the cherry blossoms could also be a symbol for the briefness of life. As to why there aren't flies in Japan, I don't know, but maybe it represents a sort of change in Rudi's view of life & death?
