Neither was prepared for the problems everyone would have, adjusting to their new life together. Gavin lacked understanding and sympathy. He always blamed Stacey for dwelling on missing Barry and wanting to return, but failed to acknowledge that not only did he not have to leave his family, he was even still sleeping in the same room he grew up in.

Stacey lacked ambition. I understand she had a number of job interviews that yielded no offers. But there are internships, volunteer work, and other opportunities to get a foot in the door, gain experience and references, and make connections in Essex that could have led to a paid job.
