The appeal of Smithy??

I just started watching season 2 on Hulu and so far I really like the show, except for Smithy.I know that most people love him,but I can't stand him, does he mature any as the series progresses or does he stay the same jealous, immature slob he was in the first season?

If you don't like smithy then you can't be enjoying the show, you are one of the few

To answer the question, he does mature a little bit when the baby is born and he takes on the role of father but overall, he is as immature as ever. Actually, Seasons 2 and 3 are absolutely HILARIOUS and James Corden as Smithy is one of the main reasons. Sorry you don't like him.

Did you start with Season 1?
Smithy is definitely a grower, but it's his immaturity and slobness that makes him so lovable

I was rewatching Season 1, and it struck me that even there, he had his moments. I can definitely see why Gavin chooses him as his best man. When Bryn thinks that Smithy has neglected arranging Gavin's stag night, a very hung-over smithy drives to Wales so that Bryn can berate him during stag night #2 - just because Gavin asks him too.

I think Smithy is a very realistic character. Whilst he's a very loveable kind of person and friendly to all he meets, he does have a nasty side to him and especially when he's drunk can become very confrontational and unreasonable.

His good by far outweighs his bad though.
