I guess I didn't understand their whole approach. They used to have these small turtle probes that they could deploy in a heartbeat. In fact I thought he was famous for them. Now they have this mind-numbingly expensive radar and a giant, heavy probe that they'd be lucky to get out and down in 2 minutes.
While we're on the subject, what happened with Reed's bi-directional radar? (The one that Josh was making veiled threats to somehow have him banned for life from ever looking at weather again if he didn't tell him the frequencies). This season they had their little pneumatic tube parachute probes and, later, some other radar they mounted under a clear dome, but no mention of this revolutionary pivoting radar from before.
The change in direction every season leaves me feeling very confused. They really don't provide adequate continuity from year to year in the narration, it seems. If they could explain why they're ditching their proven techniques and technologies for something new, that would help me understand what they're trying to actually do that they couldn't do before.
