I hear you on the recaps. It's like they treat viewers like they are stupid, and have no attention span....they can't remember anything that occurred in the segment before the last break. Mythbusters is another show that has been doing that forever, recapping everything after every break. It's so damn annoying that so many shows do this today. These shows could be cut in half if they remove the recaps and the constant repeated footage.
by - robjla on Mon Oct 10 2011 18:43:59 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It is so frustrating when they treat us like idiots.
I find it funny you say this at the same time you have an occupy wallstreet post in red text up.
"Ah that makes sense. I dislike obama and thing OWS members are idiots, therefore I am a FOX New [fan]."
Watch out scar...he might just deal you the 'Rush/Glen Beck' Card on you next! That's why I like foreign conservatives like Hariseldon, Storm Thunder & R011...those insults have no meaning.
I don't think it will be people getting bored with the show that will cause it's demise, it will be people getting turned off by the piss poor editing. I am not sure if I can take any more. I used to look forward to Sunday nights from early spring til deep into fall because of Breaking Bad and then Storm Chasers starting around the time BB ends. Breaking Bad ended this past Sunday, and honestly Storm Chasers no longer has me looking forward to it. I mean look at this coming episode number 4, it's going to be a damn near carbon copy of episode 1.
I agree with all posters here. I am so sick of the recaps. Of course they are doing it to save money by re-hashing the same footage over and over again. The sound effects are quite annoying as well, like the time the breaks were going out on the Dominator and they kept playing the same loop of squealing brakes or tires everytime they went around a corner. That was just silly.
I also don't like the new sort of game show contest look of the show, with Team Dominator, Team TIV etc. I mean I know it's always been sort of a friendly rivalry, but now it has the look of a competition and only a competition, instead of going out and doing some real science. That's just my opinion, but I still watch because I love seeing the actual tornado footage. I really wish they would stick to more of that instead of all this childish drama.
To those who think Discovery is treating you like idiots because of the recap, it's probably because you are or act like it.
The recaps are for those, that are not weekly fans of the show, who are just tuning in on the glimpse that the show's description is interesting OR are fans of the show weekly and came into the show late.
STOP being conceited and thinking that the show needs to cater to you. You are not just their target fan base.
I'm sorry cougar, but I don't need to see the same recap footage two or three times per episode. One recap for each major event in an episode is more than enough for people to catch up. The real reason they do it is because it is used as filler. I don't think that is being conceited at all.
I will agree, that if it's that excessive, it would be annoying and a waste, and therefore I'll have to watch more closely. But what I've noticed is they recap the events leading up to the commercial break for every commercial break and I've never noticed heavy repetition in the footage.
Recapping events that happened before the commercial is only relevant to those who happen to tune in during or right after a commercial break. I'm certainly no expert, but I can't imagine that crowd of people making a measurable impact on the Nielsen Rating. And would they really tune out again if they didn't get that recap of the previous 10 minutes? It's not like this show relies heavily on the story.
It's not just the recaps that are excessive, but the "pre-caps", too. Too many shows waste too much time telling us what's coming up "after the break". Often, the "coming up" scenes are for much later in the show, ao they use the same clips before 2 or 3 commercial breaks.
Build a man a fire, he's warm for a day. Light a man on fire & he's warm for the rest of his life!
The hate was directed towards the editing on storm chasers, not the chasers themselves. I still watched every episode because I thought they were doing pretty cool science.
